as I have said before, it is entirely possible to know that something must be true yet still lack faith in it.

therefore having faith is not just something for 'fools'.
sometimes it is entirely reasonable.

Hebrews 11:1 says, "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." Can anyone here on this discussion board what this verse means? Is this verse saying that faith means to be confident that what has been promised will come to pass?

It is one thing to hope for something, and another thing to have assurance in the thing you hope for. When the Spirit shows us the hidden things, things the natural man cannot see or comprehend,....Like going from a pitch dark room into a room with light, we can now see the things we were told about because we can now see their substance (assurance), and therefore, truly believe.

In this sense, faith is a gift, because it is not natural, meaning it is not something a man naturally possesses therefore, of his own he is not able to see and understand the things of the spirit, there is no substance, spiritual things can only be appraised by the spirit. Now to believe in something and be convicted and to have a living hope, we need the substance (assurance) in order for it, which is a gift of faith. The substance, only God can supply.
