I met Vaclav Havel, and the West's Secular Apostasy
Vaclav Havel, I met him informally by accident, I DO NOT LIE!!
Cannot force people to love God, no matter who is in office.
Case in point the late Prezident Havel, whom, believe it or not, I met by accident in Prague. My former wife lived in his neighborhood in Prague, the wealthiest area, Orechovka, and we were walking home from lunch near our home late 2003, between Christmas and New Years, which was ten blocks from his private residence. Miriam didn't even recognize her own president, who came walking up with a big strong young guy, a dog and an older woman. He had sunglasses on, but I thought it looked like him, so I said, Miriam, doesn't that look like prezident havel? She said yeah, we asked his bodyguard, sure enough, it was him. We wished him merry christmas and happy new year (radostne vanoce a pozehani novy rok), but i kind of froze, should have told him i was an american and so proud of his courage. The conversation ended prematurely.
Any way, he was a righteous man, a good honest Catholic who had heroically stood for freedom during communist rule, and he did his honest best to help the CZs recover from totalitarian rule, but the people were the most immoral on the earth, totally secularized, selfish, materialistic, mostly atheist, a mission field the Vatican calls it, the most secularized nation on earth. No matter how righteous your rulers might be, if your citizens don't love God, nothing will hold it together.
I must add, in Prague, the Churches are astounding, on every corner, gothic big stones, magnificent statues and art, but mostly vacant. CZ is called the most secularized nation on earth, and the people themselves, by their own testimony, pride themselves as being the most sexually immoral on earth.
Nudity is allowed on regular TV during the day. Pornographic advertisements abound. On the TRAM, there are pictures of naked women advertising strip bars. There was one big advertisement for Diet COke all over the city in big pictures. THe woman is topless in a seductive pose to the side, holding a diet coke, but "it is not nudity" because her arms are clasped over her bare breasts.
A friend comments from Britian:
'Most of Europe is that way. Beautiful old churches and many marvelous ruins but anti-religious to a fault! It is considered very rude to speak of God in public. We had similar issues in the UK, lots of nudity.
"Had a morning talk show host in the UK talking about girls in the US taking a vow of chastity.....his comment - must be a cult.....ignorance is astounding"
My response: Yes, i hear you. I should not merely pick on CZ, The whole of European civ is in apostasy, more or less, we are not much better, with the sexual revolution in full force here in US, in all media, lifestyle. It is just that CZ has it to the hilt.
I say this much, though, we ourselves in this country are not that far away from it. Already most entertainment approaches this immodest. It is ALMOST as bad. Hell, every other commercial shows women dressed so immodestly, it is like underwear.
Friend: "I know, God is good and hopefully soon people will return in droves. He can make it happen and I pray he does."
My response:
I agree, I don't think the world is ending. I think rather, that we are on the verge of the greatest renewal that shall ever be. The whole world will practically be Catholic, loving God not perfectly, but in great sincerity. And yet, I do not see it happening very likely without a terrible chastisement, and this, the world simply reaping the fruits of its apostasy. In 50 years alone, there will catastrophic social conditions because of abortion, euthanasia and promisciuty. Not only do such things send you to hell if you die culpably in them, but there are terrible consequences even in this life. A culture that is spiritually dead eventually dies physically. If families take out God and the security of chastity, society falls with it. Papa Benedict testifies to this repeatedly, and the world says he is a loser not in touch with reality. He is the wisest person on earth, not perfect, but the wisest and most people say he is the most clueless. But in the end, the Catholic Church will be vindicated in all of her teachings, especially morals. But it won't be pretty, hence, as Mother Teresa echoed the prophecies of Fatima, all of which so far have come true since 1917: "The end of abortion is nuclear war"
