Theologyweb.com, in tandem with Chaotic Void and his slightly twisted mind, is proud to present...
"Bringing Down the House: A Mutants & Masterminds Campaign"
ISSUE 1: Initiation by Ear and Fire
Tritock City
Just outside the Trooper's Base
August 12, 2231. 9:00 AM
It appears that a multitude of people showed up to 'audition' for the openings at the Tritock Troopers. Regardless of how they found out about this event, they've shown up in droves. Every kind of super-hero has shown up... from the conventional (8 ft Power Armors with an energy cannon that would make Ted Nugent soil himself) to the unconventional (an Arcane Mage who has to rely on weaponry to channel his magic) to the just plain weird (Some guy in a Jumpsuit/TechnoKilt combo armed with a heavily modified rifle who strongly reeking of ketchup). However, it appears that the Troopers are fairly picky when it comes to selecting new members, as virtually everybody has been turned down so far. Even the legendary Amish Speed Metal pioneer (and sound-warping mutant) Ahab "Captain Whiskers" Kaufmann couldn't cut the mustard.
After about two hours of waiting in line- and getting past Ahab's disappointed groupies and beard-clad fanboys- it finally comes time for you to begin the application process. As you enter the building, you go to the desk in the main foyer and the secretary reads from a small cue card in a rather nasal tone, "Welcome to the Tritock Troopers' base. In a few minutes you'll be called into the next room, where you'll be given an interview. Take this time to ready yourselves and maybe chat with your potential teammates. After all, folks: There's no 'I' in 'team.'" She motions for the current candidates to take a seat on the benches nearby as she pops a stick of gum in her mouth.
[Here's your not-so-subtle cue to do a little banter with your teammates, folks. And so help me if I find any one of you hitting on female (N)PCs, I will transport you to the desert and hit you with a flock of Polka-dotted Speedboats.

Re: Game Thread: Bringing Down the House
Captain Daring Dashing sits uncomfortably on the waiting bench. This was beginning to look too much like Episode 321: "Captain Daring Dashing and The Proctologist of Pain".
That waiting room alone gave him the willies (not that he would admit it, after all, cartoon heroes have standards). Looking around himself he attempts to investigate his environs.
[Captain Dashing would like to roll notice to pick out anything out of place with the physical structure of the room he's in.]
[19+8= 27]"Weinberg's statement is true as far as it goes, but it is not the whole truth. To make it the whole truth, we must add an additional clause: 'And for bad people to do good things—that [also] takes religion.' The main point of Christianity is that it is a religion for sinners. Jesus made that very clear. When the Pharisees asked his disciples, "Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?" he said, "I come to call not the righteous but sinners to repentance." Only a small fraction of sinners repent and do good things but only a small fraction of good people are led by their religion to do bad things."

Re: Game Thread: Bringing Down the House
Falcon looks around while sitting on a bench, thankful that he built his wings to fold into the suit. He can tell he's in for a bit of fun with this batch of heroes. While he's waiting, he tries to recall all he's heard about the Tritock Troopers and Captain Whiskers.
[Gather Information: 17+20=37, 14+20=34]
Once he's recalled all he can recall, he goes and introduces himself to the nervous-looking gentleman on the other bench.
He sticks out his hand and says "Hey there friend, name's Falcon. What's yours? [I mean Captain Daring Dashing, of course.]

Forgŕs takes a seat not too far from the animated-looking-fellow. She promptly stares at the floor, twirling her long, red hair around a finger while attempting to surreptitiously assess the others for relative cuteness.
What the world thinks the most valuable exhibition of the Dao is to be found in books. But books are only a collection of words. Words have what is valuable in them - what is valuable in words is the ideas they convey. But those ideas are a sequence of something else - and what that something else is cannot be conveyed by words. When the world, because of the value which it attaches to words, commits them to books, that for which it so values them may not deserve to be valued - because that which it values is not what is really valuable. Thus it is that what we look at and can see is (only) the outward form and colour, and what we listen to and can hear is (only) names and sounds. Alas! that men of the world should think that form and colour, name and sound, should be sufficient to give them the real nature of the Dao. The form and colour, the name and sound, are certainly not sufficient to convey its real nature; and so it is that 'the wise do not speak and those who do speak are not wise.' How should the world know that real nature?

Captain Dashing looks back in surprise before seizing the hero in a powerful hug.
"Falcos Airwalker! Long time no see, old boy! I haven't crossed paths with you since that business with the Broccolian Invasion of Simigun 6 back in episode 1003. My, you are looking fit....if a little badly animated. Working with Hannah-Barbera are you?""Weinberg's statement is true as far as it goes, but it is not the whole truth. Tritock Troopers:
SUCCESS! Despite the lack of renown outside of Saskatchewan, you can find out a fair bit about them: Originally founded in the 2100s, this team of super-heroes has had an ever-changing roster. Around 2180, the team was disbanded due to the drunken incompetence of one of their own leading to a Mall being blown up. A few years ago, they were brought back into commission, albeit their membership was restricted- until recently anyway- to those picked by the city council. Current roster includes Crusader (Some Paladin-esque character that shoots energy and packs a massive hammer), Anton Arbitraire (a Chaos Mage), Thermostat (A woman whose body is made of water), Card Shark (a young lady with a gambler motif that has preturnatural aim with her throwing cards), and Drake (a guy in a battle-suit that can shoot fireballs).
Captain Whiskers:
SUCCESS! Captain Whiskers, aka Ahab Kaufmann, is a renowned musician. Despite the obscurity of his music (something that can only be classified by fellow minstrels as "Amish Speed Metal") he has a considerable following. Some of his hits include, "Amos, Where's the Buggy?" and the song that made him famous known as "Shoenail Fury." Aside from being a talented musician, he's a part-time superhero that has the mutant ability to manipulate sound.
Captain Daring Dashing:
SUCCESS! Not much is known about this guy. All you could find out is that he's got some weird 'futuristic' gear (including a blaster pistol, a space-suit, and a large airship) and that he made his super-heroic debut by tying up an abusive father via the man's own belt.
(Forgŕs)
Taking a look around... you see a guy in a space-suit, a secretary chewing on her gum voraciously, and Hubba, Hubba, Hubba! That guy in the blue armor is rather cute, despite him showing a few signs of age.Last edited by Chaotic Void; January 21st 2012 at 01:01 AM.

Re: Game Thread: Bringing Down the House
A young man slouches into the room. His bodysuit is dark in color with greyish vertical streaks on it. He stands awkardly for a moment, looking at the woman. Then he moves up to the two men. "H'lo. My name is Viscid. What's yours?"
Micah 6:6. With what shall I come before the Lord, bow before the Most High G-d? Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings, with yearling calves? 7. Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with myriad streams of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? 8. He has told you, O man, what is good, and what the Lord demands of you; but to do justice, to love loving-kindness, and to walk discreetly with your G-d.

"No harm done friend. I get mistaken for people all the time. It's this weird problem I have that I really can't explain."
He turns to the new guy who just introduced himself.
"Pleasure to meet you, Viscid. Name's Falcon, or Captain Falcon if you prefer. It's no skin off my nose either way."

Gather Information Check (Viscid):
SUCCESS! This chap appears to be the hero known as Viscid, a mutant that can control glue. A member of one of the earlier graduating classes from the Academy of Superheroics, his abilities have gained him both fame (he helped a bit on-and-off with reconstructing stuff a few years back) and infamy (he recently pissed off some environmentalist groups- who, ever since, haven't hesitated to provide scathing criticisms of him whenever possible- when he atomized a tree while experimenting with his powers) in the past decade.
