      OK, I'm going to assume you really want to discuss this. And I have listened to quite a few of the songs.

      I'm interested in the one "thanking God for our prophet".

      I'm honestly trying to think of any parallel in orthodoxy where we are essentially praising a man instead of singing "to God" or "About God". And, yes, I'm aware that the song doesn't actually "praise" Smith, but, I can't think of any hymns or praise songs in orthodoxy that focus on Peter or Paul or John Wesley, or any other preacher or prophet or leader.
      2 Tim 2:1-2

      Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

      This is only because Protestants rejected prayer to the saints. In Orthodoxy (and presumably in Roman Catholicism), all major (and many minor) saints are celebrated in song. Here is an akathist for Sts. Peter and Paul, for example.

      I was thinking about asking you that, OBP. It seemed that Orthodoxy would hold that position.

      Thanks to OBP and CP for the interesting info. I learned something.

      Actually, I can think of several songs that are sung by Protestants that celebrate the Apostles.

      ETA: Not to mention the OT saints...

      Care to share? The question was sincere.

      The only ones I could think of were from Vacation Bible School.

      Peter and John went to pray
      They met a lame man on the way
      he stretched out his palm
      and asked for an alm
      and this is what Peter did say

      but such as I have give i thee
      in the name of Jesus Christ
      of Nazareth rise up and walk

      He went WALKING and LEAPING and praising God
      Walking and LEAPING and praising God

      That one's more about us (ok, the Boy Scout version I learned is more about Abraham's sons, and is kinda nonsensical).
      Zacheus was a wee little man and a wee little man was he
      This one's legit, being a paraphrase of a story from the Gospels.

      Children, go where I send thee
      How shall I send thee?
      I'm gonna send thee one-by-one
      One for the little bitty baby
      Who was Born, born oh, born in Bethlehem.

      Children, go where I send thee
      How shall I send thee?
      I'm gonna send thee two-by-two
      Two for Paul and Silas
      One for the little bitty baby
      Who was Born, born oh, born in Bethlehem.

      Three for the Hebrew children
      Four for the four that stood at the door
      Five for the gospel preachers
      Six for the six that never got fixed
      Seven for the seven that never got to Heaven
      Eight for the eight that stood at the gate
      Nine for the nine all dressed so fine
      Ten for the Ten Commandments
      Eleven for the eleven deriders
      Twelve for the twelve Apostles
      2 Tim 2:1-2

      Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

      LOL!!!!

      Let me see if I remember this right:

      Peter, John, and James went out on the boat, on the boat, on the boat;
      Peter John and James went out on the boat out on the deep blue sea....

      They fished all night but caught no fish; they fished all night but caught no fish, they fished all night but caught no fish
      out on the deep blue sea.....

      Along came Jesus walking on the water, along came Jesus walking on the water, along came Jesus walking on the water,
      out on the deep blue sea.....

      Then they got all the fish on the boat, then they got all the fish on the boat, then they got all the fish on the boat,
      out on the deep blue sea...

      Re: The spirit of LDS worship

      Children's songs, of course...

      The Wise Man Built His House

      The wise man built his house upon the rock
      The wise man built his house upon the rock
      The wise man built his house upon the rock
      And the rain came tumbling down

      Oh, the rain came down
      And the floods came up
      The rain came down
      And the floods came up
      The rain came down
      And the floods came up
      And the wise man's house stood firm.

      The foolish man built his house upon the sand
      The foolish man built his house upon the sand
      The foolish man built his house upon the sand
      And the rain came tumbling down

      Oh, the rain came down
      And the floods came up
      The rain came down
      And the floods came up
      The rain came down
      And the floods came up
      And the foolish man's house went "splat!" [clap hands once]

      So, build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ
      Build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ
      Build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ
      And the blessings will come down

      Oh, the blessings come down
      As your prayers go up
      The blessings come down
      As your prayers go up
      The blessings come down
      As your prayer go up
      So build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ.

      Apostle's Song
      To the tune of Jesus Loves Me.

      Jesus called them one by one
      Peter, Andrew, James and John
      Next came Philip, Thomas too
      Matthew and Bartholomew

      James the one they called the less
      Simon, also Thaddeus
      The twelfth apostle Judas made
      Jesus was by him betrayed

      Yes, Jesus called them
      Yes, Jesus called them
      Yes, Jesus called them
      And they all followed him

      But I found this when I went looking at the 1975 Baptist Hymnal contents found here. There is an instumental midi player for each one so you can here the music, but no words. The words for most can probably be found on line. I have both this hymnal and the old 1940 Braodman Hymnal. And the United Methodist Hymnal. Trivia: The first hymn in any Methodist hymnal is always "O for a thousand tongues to sing by Charles Wesley.)

      Stephen, full of power and grace

      1. When Stephen, full of power and grace,
      Went forth throughout the land,
      He bore no shield before his face,
      No weapon in his hand;
      But only in his heart a flame
      And on his lips a sword
      Wherewith he smote and overcame
      The foemen of the Lord.

      2. When Stephen preached against the laws
      And by those laws was tried,
      He had no friend to plead his cause,
      No spokesman at his side;
      But only in his heart a flame
      And in his eyes a light
      Wherewith God's daybreak to proclaim
      And rend the veils of night.

      3. When Stephen, young and doomed to die,
      Fell crushed beneath the stones,
      He had no curse nor vengeful cry
      For those who broke his bones;
      But only in his heart a flame
      And on his lips a prayer
      That God, in sweet forgiveness' name
      Should understand and spare.

      4. Let me, O Lord, thy cause defend,
      A knight without a sword;
      No shield I ask, no faithful friend,
      No vengeance, no reward;
      But only in my heart a flame
      And in my soul a dream,
      So that the stones of earthly shame
      A jewelled crown may seem.
      Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

      I believe that God put me on this Earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Right now I am so far behind I will never die.

      1. I need thee ev’ry hour,
      Most gracious Lord.
      No tender voice like thine
      Can peace afford.

      [Chorus]
      I need thee, oh, I need thee;
      Ev’ry hour I need thee!
      Oh, bless me now, my Savior;
      I come to thee!

      2. I need thee ev’ry hour;
      Stay thou nearby.
      Temptations lose their pow’r
      When thou art nigh.

      3. I need thee ev’ry hour,
      In joy or pain.
      Come quickly and abide,
      Or life is vain.

      4. I need thee ev’ry hour,
      Most holy One.
      Oh, make me thine indeed,
      Thou blessed Son!
