Kingdoms of Amalur
Got the demo off steam and have been playing it obsessively over the weekend. It's an open world single player RPG with Oblivion's former lead designer (i think) working on it along with salvadore and that guy who made spawn. The gameplay is surprisingly smooth. Like Fable, only good. The story seems to be somewhat unique too, with a focus on faeries as antagonists.

"Years ago, I mean decades ago, I read a quote about politicians performing quid pro quo favors for campaign cash, and whether or not we could prove it. The guy who was quoted opined that it was difficult to determine. He noted that in many cases, the payoff might not take the form of votes on legislative action -- those might be detectable, and so are avoided -- but could take subtler forms, like the question that is never asked at a hearing.
The media's doing a terrific job of not asking questions it doesn't want to know the answer to. It doesn't ask these questions in bulk, and the great volume of questions it doesn't ask makes it cheap to not ask questions.
And it passes these savings on to you, the customer." Ace

If you wanna try chakrams out (and you should, because they're awesome), they sell some at the inn. I don't understand why an innkeeper sells better and more varied weapons and armor than the blacksmith, but whatever.

The bar fights there are pretty lethal.

Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'
'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'

First thing:
Thank you thank you thank you thank you Mr Game Dev for giving us a nice, honest demo. I will be purchasing your game.
Second thing:
Is fun! I kind of accidently stole some stuff and got into a massive fight with the first village buttttt, y'know, it happens. Looks to be a good setting, some solid gameplay mechanics, etc.
Third thing:
The controls seem a bit clunky. Anyone else getting that? With the mouse view moving and the menus just don't work quite as smoothly as you'd like?

Re: Kingdoms of Amalur
Sometimes the game engine gets stuck on a directional key. That makes navigating some menus impossible and my character runs in that direction on its own until I press it again. Probably the biggest issue I have, but I assume they'll sort it in the final version.

BTW, playing the demo gives you special armor for Mass Effect 3 when it releases.

Too bad mass effect sucks.

Not too impressed with the character customization. For instance, in the hairstyles, you have the option to look gay, flaming gay, or ghetto.

I like the art design - very reminiscent of WoW. It's good to see variation from PHOTO REALISM that permeates everything today.

I'm really digging the inventory system of adding things to a "junk" category. Really makes things easier to sort through. Compare this system to, say, Fallout 3 and you'll definitely see the benefit.

Uhhhh, blocking system sucks though. Pressing left-shift instead of RMB is so backwards it hurts.
