In addition to the excellent recommendations listed above, feel free to get your feet wet here, for free!

I’ve never been very good at gazing into the crystal ball, so my predictions for the future probably aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on. Nevertheless, I’m going to stick my neck out and say that I think I know what the biggest theological debate of the next twenty years is going to be about. It doesn’t sound very exciting – and certainly not as likely to make headlines as hell, or penal substitution, or the roles of men and women, or the various other theological hot potatoes that the last decade has seen chucked around – but fundamentally, it is the issue that drives all the others. It is the question of the doctrine of Scripture: how we read, understand and apply the Bible.

Re: Recommend Some Good Books on the Theology of Scripture

It depends upon what you're looking for. I agree that how we interpret and use Scripture is a key. However when I think of theology of Scripture, I tend to think of Biblical theology. That may not be quite what you mean though.

For Biblical theology I think N T Wright is high on the list. His newest book "How God became King" is a good introduction to theology based on Jesus' teaching. I should note that I'm less convinced by his work on Paul. I appreciate what he's trying to do, but I'm not quite sure he succeeds.

Some of RIchard Bauckham's work is interesting as well. Wright's concept of Jesus as being part of the identity of God seems to be based on Bauckham.
