Joel McDurmon of American Vision is set to debate obsessive hyperpreterist Don Preston. I credit Don with the whole reason for me being involved against hyperpreterism to begin with due to his badgering of me many years ago after I unsuccessfully bid on an ebay book on eschatology. Like most things that American Vision does when it concerns hyperpreterism, I have serious reservations about this turn of events.

First the good, it is about time that someone from American Vision refutes hyperpreterism. Lord knows that Gary DeMar doesn't bother and implicitly encourages it as I have demonstrated in Episode 8 of the Preterist Podcast, There's Something About Gary. I seriously wonder though if Joel has the fortitude to call heresy--heresy. Lord knows Gary DeMar doesn't bother.

After that good observation that AV finally is taking this step, everything else is ugly. First, the title... buying into the semantical games of the hyperpreterists. I wonder when those partial Calvinists over there at American Vision will debate a full Calvinist, and title the debate in that way. No?

But my greater concern is that AV is going to this debate on hyperpreterist grounds... at a hyperpreterist event that is titled to just be another "preterist" event. It isn't, and shame on them for giving their hard-earned credibility to it, and for encouraging others to pay their hard-earned money in attendance fees to a heretical organization.
