Now the amazon banners (actually posts) are on every page and are kinda obnoxiously large.

I don't much mind the ads as posts concept. Otherwise, the ads have been hanging out off the right side of the window, which mostly defeats the purpose since they're nearly hidden from view.

You just have to have clicked on the link in the ad within the last 24 hours. (and not clicked on the link of other Amazon Affliated sites).
Amazon then sets a cookie that basically says "You came from TWeb within the last 24 hours if you you buy something we'll give them money""If you can ever make any major religion look absolutely ludicrous, chances are you haven't understood it"
