Very much like Creole -- the French, of course, impacted the Island of Haiti, where I did a mission trip many years ago, so the combination of African and French produced a language whereby I could KINDA understand Creole, because I knew a little bit of French, but you had to listen hard.

I think the same thing must have happened in Mexico when the Spaniards arrived - Spanish got mixed with the local "Indian" (the Mosquito Indians, for example) and a "working man's version" of Spanish resulted.

I've known people who get the Rosetta Stone Spanish lessons, then they go to Mexico, or hire some Mexican labor, and they get laughed at because they're speaking "Gringo Spanish".

Our Church supported a couple of Mexican nationals through College in the Rio Grande Valley, and they told me that, even in Mexico, there are dialects that might be difficult for one Mexican from one part of the Country to understand when spoken by a Mexican from another part.

ANOTHER thing that really surprised me as we saw more and more "Mexican" TV on Cable --- besides their VERY STRANGE sense of humor (the make the Brits look reasonable) was the fact that so many MEXICANS are blonde haired and blue eyed. We, particularly in South Texas, are used to seeing the smaller stature dark hair dark eyes Mexicans.

To top it all off, a friend of mine was born in Mexico (therefore a Mexican) but his parents were German missionaries, and he is tall, blonde, blue-eyed and speaks GERMAN -- but he's a Mexican!

I'm rambling! Help, I'm typing and I can't shut up!!!!!
