FAU student threatens to kill professor and classmates

Associate Professor Stephen M. Kajiura was reviewing with his evolution class in GS 120 for a midterm when FAU student Jonatha Carr interrupted him: “How does evolution kill black people?” she asked. Kajiura attempted to explain that evolution doesn’t kill anyone.

And then, Carr became violent.

A fellow classmate, Rachel Bustamante, was sitting behind Carr prior to her outburst and noticed she had been avoiding looking at the professor until 11:35 a.m. — that’s when she snapped. The classmate reported that Kajiura was discussing attraction between peacocks when Carr raised her hand to ask her question about evolution. She asked it four times, and became increasingly upset each time Kajiura’s answer failed to satisfy her.

A video taken by Bustamante shows Carr ranting and threatening to kill the professor and several students.

I watched that video and I feel bad for the woman. It really looks like a bipolar outburst or some other mental episode. Over at P.Z. Myers' blog they're smugly conflating her with "anti-evolutionist nuts." That seems like a really superficial explanation for what's happening in the video

Rosenau takes a similar view but without the smugness. But it seems that she has numerous issues and is a deeply disturbed young lady just waiting for something to set her off and in this case it was a discussion on evolution.

It's been reported that she was emotionally distraught over the recent murder w/no charges of Florida teen Trayvon Martin. Enough to push her over the edge. It certainly had nothing to do with evolution

To be fair, it's the Conservative version of DailyKos, but these are real people who vote and participate in political/social dialogue with their social circles (I can't imagine any of the folks who post there not doing so) and it reflects the feelings and opinions of a lot of politically active/motivated Conservative Christians.
