Simple histogram of the top 100 - the US is in the 78.33 - 80.00 range column. High end at 79.80. Note the bunching at the 78.33 through 83.33 range which spans a total expectancy difference of 5 years and 62 of the top 66 countries. Something definitely is going on below #66 - that should lie outside either a reasonable or unreasonable MoE. But it's not until we hit #79 that expectancy drops to below 76 years.

There are conclusions we can draw from that big clump - but I don't think you can get good ones about anything as specific as health care practices - too many possible variables and too little variation to work with.

It's not an either/or... it's a BOTH! And, aside for being a little too fat, I'm pretty healthy for a 62 year old!

My wife got my family eating healthy -- no processed sugar, low carbs, lots of protein and fresh veggies -- and I lost around 70-pounds in a year. I haven't been this trim since I was an active college student over 2-decades ago, and I feel great. And all it took was to stop eating crap.

Yeah, wife and I decided we're going to try not eating any processed foods - especially carbs - for the month of July. Only a few days in, and I'm already feeling a lot better!

my biggest vice is sugary stuff. coke, candy, etc. club soda does a decent job of keeping back the cola cravings but I can't really find a good replacement for the candy. fruit prices here are obscene and the fruits/vegetables themselves are pretty bland.

Same. At recommendation of the internet I've recently started to drink more green tea and eat a reasonable amount of cinammon everyday (it goes nicely in yoghurt or on potatoes), and one or both of those seemed to have worked wonders to reduce my sugar cravings. Probably the cinnamon, as its primary chemical is thought to regulate blood sugar, and it itself is very sweet in taste so its win-win.

Sugar is VERY hard to give up. It takes a few months to retrain your taste buds. Stuff I used to eat before like soda tastes disgustingly sweet now. But there was a transition period. We use Stevia as a sweetener which has a much lower glycemic index than sugar, but it is somewhat of an acquired taste.

Yeah, I had to start with coffee. I USED to use 3 spoons of sugar (), then cut it down to 1, now none at all.

Occasionally, I'll have a coke, and the sweetness is pretty much overwhelming. I accidentally sipped some of my grandson's Dr Pepper - and WOW --- that stuff is like carbonated sweetened prune juice!!!
