Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'

'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'

      Re: April 2012 Screwballs

Sigh. I can't go two cyber steps without tripping over a Zombie Jesus turd squeezed out from an Internet Atheist. On another forum I frequent, I posted a Happy Easter thread and somebody saw that as an opportunity to say:

Happy lich-jesus/zombie-jesus (depending on your faith) day!
      To which I responded:

For Easter, I decided to gift you a dictionary because you obviously don't know what zombie means.
      Which brought the response:
Hence why this year I've decided to broaden my celebration to include those who believe Jesus rose as a lich through magical means. However, I continue to have a number of friends that are fervent zombie jesus believers, and who am I to question their faith?

Screwball to CNN's Belief blog for this article...

      http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2012/0...e-man-vs-myth/

      When you start out with:

Timothy Freke was flipping through an old academic book when he came across a religious image that some would call obscene.

It was a drawing of a third-century amulet depicting a naked man nailed to a cross. The man was born of a virgin, preached about being “born again” and had risen from the dead after crucifixion, Freke says.

But the name on the amulet wasn’t Jesus. It was a pseudonym for Osiris-Dionysus, a pagan god in ancient Mediterranean culture. Freke says the amulet was evidence of something that sounds like sacrilege – and some would say it is: that Jesus never existed. He was a myth created by first-century Jews who modeled him after other dying and resurrected pagan gods, says Freke, author of "The Jesus Mysteries: Was the ‘Original Jesus’ a Pagan God?"

      My little bro sends:

I nominate a Massachusetts school for taking God out of the song "God Bless the USA," then deciding not to have it sung at all rather than changing it back.

Mass. school drops patriotic song from assembly after parents object to removal of word ‘God’

      http://www.washingtonpost.com/nation...HxS_story.html

Also, an anti-Screwball to the writer and recorder of the song, Lee Greenwood:

"Greenwood issued a statement saying he objected to the changing of the lyrics because God 'is the most important word in the whole piece of music.'"

      Reader also sends:

      http://michaelprescott.typepad.com/m...the-week-.html

For a comment by "no one":

""jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father."
Statements like that me think that the story is a thinly concealed coded spiritual message. The Tibetan Book of the Dead specifically states that in the Bardo of becoming - before the deceased has been reborn in the next world - the deceased will be drawn toward grieving friends and relatives and that the grief can ground them and interfere with their spiritual rebirth. It's like Jesus knew exactly that and was cautioning Mary in that regard.

There are other spiritual parellels that most of us probably recognize in a story that, while beautiful, seems to have confused spiritual facts with concrete physical representations in its telling."

And this one by Amos Oliver Doyle:

"I can't resist in response to this post to recommend to anyone who wants to better understand the interactions and culture of the Romans, Jews and desert peoples during the life of Jesus to read The Sorry Tale by Patience Worth. Patience Worth provides minute details of the daily activities of these peoples as well as a poignant portrayal of the crucifixion of Jesus and the penitent thief which may leave you in tears. I find it much better than the Bible in creating the feel of the daily life and times of Jesus. The original book is out of print but there are several recent reprints available at online bookstores."

Religion coverage is generally horrendous. At least they quoted Evans.
There is no need to be worried by facetious people who try to make the Christian hope of 'Heaven' ridiculous by saying they do not want 'to spend eternity playing harps'. The answer to such people is that if they cannot understand books written for grown-ups, they should not talk about them.
