Kinda hard for me to imagine that an obscure, poorly-educated man and some polygamy in a localized setting in rural America 170 years ago could result in such notoriety among "all nations, kindreds, and tongues... and among all people." Hard to imagine that he could have planned this.

The notoriety is in fact in question. Show me a suitable (i.e. global) survey of the most recognized names of historical figures, then we'll talk. If you don't have any such data, we may as well drop the subject.

That aside, "I'll be famous someday" isn't a very good prophecy to begin with.

It kinda helps that he constantly drew the attention of the authorities, made himself a Lt. General, became the grand poobah in the Alibaba Temple of the Shrine*, had run-ins with his own former leaders, destroyed the printing press, created a banking scandal, got the Masons of Ohio to fuss at him about running a phony outpost....

He wasn't all that obscure, OC --- he was CONSTANTLY self-promoting himself (department of redundancy department)! Didn't he even try to run for President of the United States?

*that may be a slight mischarachterization.

I'm curious... did I miss a noun or verb or something in "man and some polygamy in a localized setting"? ("and some polygamy"?)

Hard to imagine that a charismatic religious leader who told people he was a prophet, selected personally by God to restore the gospel, would say complimentary things about himself?

OC you are such a tool. Grow a brain, start drinking, find a woman, something . .. anything.

Joe Smith is some wacky religious nut who lead some kind of religious nut jobs across the country, started a religion, was forced to join the United States, wanted to have sex with more than one woman though married, and pulled off one of the greatest con-jobs in the history of modern religion.

You are . . . no have become completely tedious. And although for some reason everyone seems to be being nice to you I am getting past that state.

You are the nut-bag who fell of the truck, a pain in the rear, a Troll who has a sack of crap for brains, and an idiot worse than Tass, Burp, or Yo Lunch and you are not as interesting at all but boring boring boring.

I've decided that you have a mental disorder that I have yet to determine. Hopefully, you are on medication. They should up the dose.

And although, having a mental disorder, you still qualify for motor-head.

He's been dead for 160 years or so. Yet his name only grows in notoriety.

Same's true of Abraham Lincoln. As I said before, you really need more evidence to back up this claim about his notoriety, even despite the fact that Smith's fame or lack thereof is totally irrelevant to the validity of the doctrines he promoted.
