A Glory Seed Devotional
The Journey of Impatience
The journey of impatience crosses and crisscrosses the pages of life on a collision course with a life filled with regrets, with missed opportunities, broken and missed relationships. It is a journey moving at the speed of dreams of fame and fortune. It is a journey moving at the speed obtaining all the material possessions that can be had. It is a journey where the day to day hi-lights of life become a blur, where the journey from childhood to adulthood is covered in one giant step.
From a world, that now measures time in how fast computer processes information, how fast we can get from point A to point B, how fast our food can be prepared and consumed. From a world that no longer takes time to watch a flower grow and blossom, no longer takes the time to enjoy a sunset or sunrise, no longer takes time to play with a child. From a world, that now measures life in how many pills it takes to sustain it. From an impatient world moving faster than its Creator, impatient people rush towards emptiness, towards doom.
Parents impatiently try to “get it all” live beyond their means and in so doing disregard the stability of their family. A new husband and wife rush headlong into a marriage expecting a smooth road. Children rush through childhood expecting everything to be handed to them. Employers rush headlong into higher profits only to find the loyalty of its employees left in the dust of red and black ink. Employees rush headlong into the workforce expecting higher wages and less work without thinking about the future of their employer. Mankind rushes headlong into the future leaving in its wake depleting natural resources, widespread ecological abuse. Onward and onward, the unnatural speed of life travels consuming all in its path, leaving only an empty history in its path.
Quietly and profoundly from the far reaches of eternity God sent his Spirit into the medium we call time in an attempt to understand and help mankind on the journey of impatience only to find he has no point of reference, no way of understanding. A second time with all of eternity beating in his heart quietly and profoundly God sends his only Son into our world and makes another attempt to help mankind on the journey of impatience. Yet impatiently mankind does not understand and in the spirit of impatience kills God’s only Son.
In fury of an earthquake, in the fierceness of a raging thunderstorm, the hand of God reaches across time and gives life back to his Son and suddenly the medium we call time becomes powerless. Suddenly and powerfully, mankind is confronted with the hollowness and emptiness of time, the futility of impatience. Above the echoing sounds of thunder, the voice God calls out to you, “Seek not gifts of time, seek only for gifts of eternity for what so ever you search you will find. Gifts of eternity lead to life, gifts of time lead to death.”
Grace and PEACE!
