A Glory Seed Devotional
My grace is sufficient…
Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, you aren’t looking for me because you saw me do miracles. You are looking for me because you ate the bread and were satisfied.” (John 6:26 NCV)
With 5 loaves of barley bread and 2 little fish Jesus fed more than 5000 people yet they could not get past their stomachs! Jesus was feeding the people with the “Food of Heaven” and all they could see was fish sandwiches. In my imagination, I can see God weeping. You wanna know why I see God weeping? Sure God wept because the people missed the importance of Jesus as the Messiah but he was also weeping because the people wanted something for nothing. They received a free meal and they wanted more free meals.
It was bad enough for them to fail to see the reality of Jesus but on top of that, to seek him out for another free meal must have been heart-wrenching for Jesus. Yet undaunted by their shortsightedness Jesus continued to help them see his true reality and still they did not recognize their hunger was much deeper than just bread and fish.
Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, it was not Moses who gave you bread from heaven; it is my Father who is giving you the true bread from heaven. God’s bread is the One who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” The people said, “Sir, give us this bread always.” Then Jesus said, “I am the bread that gives life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. (John 6:32-37 NCV)
What we need to draw from this is God sent his only Begotten Son into our lives not to give us things but to give us God! What we need to realize that Jesus is first about God and us second. It is verse 37 I am working on because I understand Jesus to be saying that when “bad things” come whether or not he will make them go away I will have all I need because God’s greatest blessing is Jesus, not what Jesus will or will not for me. God told it this way to the Apostle Paul, “My Grace is sufficient for you.”
Grace and PEACE!
