Tolkien and Lewis would be on the same team... and they would be battling... Stephanie Meyer and JK Rowling.

Words uttered to incite an all in brawl. Whoever says the words 'Crab Battle' will usually be spear tackled to the ground by anyone else present, and all parties will then engage in a fight to the death.

Amigoxp thinks Christians are still* arguing whether women have souls or not. His source? Landover Baptist Church.

"Jesus said that the sole reason God created women in the first place was to provide company and service to men (1 Corinthians 11:9), God determined that men would be lonely living alone, so he created women purely to keep men company and serve their needs (Genesis 2:18-22). Women are therefore completely subordinate to men (1 Corinthians 11:3). It stands to reason, though, that once men enter the Kingdom of Heaven, they will be one with God, and will no longer be lonely and in need of mortal companionship. Thus, the reason behind having women will no longer exist. Women, like the members of the animal kingdom, will fall by the wayside."

Dr. Edwards went on to say that, "once men reunite with their maker, they will no longer be burdened with the care of women. After all, women were inferior creations from the start. Women are fond of self-indulgence (Isaiah 32:9-11). They are silly and easily led into error (2 Timothy 3:6). They are subtle and deceitful (Proverbs 7:10; Ecclesiastes 7:26). They are zealous in promoting superstition and idolatry (Jeremiah 7:18; Ezekiel 13:17, 23). And they are active in instigating to iniquity (Numbers 31:15-16; 1 Kings 21:25; Nehemiah 13:26). It was the inherent weakness of women that led them to be deceived by Satan (Genesis 3:1-6; 2 Corinthians 11:3; 1 Timothy 2:14). Consequently, women were cursed from the start (Genesis 3:16). There is simply no room in heaven for such flawed and inadequate beings."
      http://www.landoverbaptist.org/news0500/femsoul.html

if you read the above statement you will find the women status in christianity? today you are debating about whether women have soul or not? but islam gave women rights 1400 years ago.

I believe it was NT Wright who compared it to the way David poured out water in 2 Sam. 23:17:

And he said, Be it far from me, O LORD, that I should do this: [is not this] the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.

Never seen a better explanation IMO.

I think this guy is serious, and is seriously misinformed about his own religion. He has things that are pretty basic completely backwards. I have found that there is very little in Islam(as far as teachings) that isn't completely backwards(you might find a few, but after a little research most of those "nice sounding" verses have been abrogated). .

      On a related note,

A reporter asked [Nancy] Pelosi: “Many of the people that are opposed to gay marriage cite their religion as the reason why they're opposed. You're a Catholic that supports gay marriage. Do you believe that religion and the idea that you can support gay marriage can be separated? And how do you grapple with the idea that you support gay marriage as a Catholic?”

Pelosi responded: "My religion has, compels me--and I love it for it--to be against discrimination of any kind in our country, and I consider this a form of discrimination. I think it’s unconstitutional on top of that. "

Pelosi spoke glowingly of the comments President Barack Obama made Wednesday when he said he supported same-sex marriage.

"So I think that yesterday was a great day for America because the president in a very personal, as well as presidential way, made history, and hopefully this will bring people together on the issue," Pelosi said.

"It’s a matter of time. It's all about time. And on these issues, what is inevitable to some of us is inconceivable to others," she said. "And what we want to do is shorten the difference between the inevitable and the inconceivable," she continued. "And I think the president went a long way in doing that yesterday."

Never mind that the Catholic Church considers homosexual acts to be gravely depraved.

Actually, this is a double nom for political screwiness - where does the constitution mention marriage?

Does something need to be specifically mentioned in the Constitution in order for it to be protected? The Bible doesn't mention the Trinity, either.

      Isn't the RCC considered depraved?

Religious leaders have used the Bible to support all sorts of things which we now view as wrong/evil. (e.g., elitism, misogyny, slavery, Jim Crow, antisemitism, anti-miscegenation, Insults for Christ, anti....etc.) The Bible changes with the times, usually kicking and screaming the whole way.

The Gay is here to stay; history will view anti-gay Christians with embarrassment.
