Re: May 2012 Screwballs
Youtuber MrBritish makes me feel stupid living in my country. This was in response to Aaronk1994's video answering the charge that "using the Bible to prove the Bible is circular reasoning". Aaron explained that the New Testament is a collection of sources and you can use them to corroborate each other. My fellow Brit simply said:
"The bible isn't evidence so using it as evidence, for its own truth no less, is circular. "

Due to rampant stupidity by Skeptics, and time issues, I'm only going to be on TWeb in my own (tektonics.org) section from now on. Deal with it.

Blah, Screwball to myself for accidentally breaking my (intended) 2 day fast before my baptism. I wasn't even thinking about it... at least it was just one piece of chocolate, right? XD

I got it from where I work, gave it to my best friend, but noticed he hadn't eaten it so I took it... so unless it was sacrificed to the god of the corporation without me knowing... : P
I've never been great at fasting when I've tried in the past (which hasn't been often), but I'm making an effort this time due to the occasion and because of it's being suggested in the Didacheאָמַר לוֹ יֵשׁוּעַ: אֲנִי הַדֶּרֶךְ וְהָאֱמֶת וְהַחַיִּים. אֵין אִישׁ בָּא אֶל הָאָב אֶלָּא דַּרְכִּי

***Rest in peace, Curtmudgeon!***
"I hate Manwe's posts because I hate babies and America." --Augustine2004, August 6, 2011
Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'
'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'
The Words of Húrin and Morgoth, "The Children of Húrin" by J.R.R. Tolkien

Re: May 2012 Screwballs
Screwball to Richard Dawkins.
Commenting on a plan to put a copy of the KJV in every English school as part of the 400th anniversary celebrations -- he likes the idea, saying that schoolchildren can see for themselves that the Bible is a poor guide to morality -- he is quoted by the BBC as adding,
"The whole King James Bible is littered with literary allusions, almost as many as Shakespeare (to quote that distinguished authority Anon, the trouble with Hamlet is it's so full of clichees)."
Among the examples he used to illustrate his point were: the salt of the earth; go the extra mile; I wash my hands of it; filthy lucre; through a glass darkly; wolf in sheep's clothing; hide your light under a bushel; and no peace for the wicked.
I expect that "clichees" is the BBC's mis-spelling, and I expect Dawkins thought he was being tongue-in-cheek clever, but that 'the Bible is full of cliches' joke is old and tired. And it just reinforces those who expect him to misunderstand totally, and to get things back to front...

Re: May 2012 Screwballs
Have you read A Tale of Two Cities? It opens with the "It was the best of times..." cliche. What is this, 1859?
Anyway, a pretty bold move by Dawkins. Not everyone would openly advocate for child abuseLast edited by Hamster; May 26th 2012 at 11:44 PM.

Indeed. The Clementine Recognitions aren't quite orthodox. For example, they also state that ignorance is the root of all evil.
