A Glory Seed Devotional
Home Sweet PSALMS…

“David sang this when he ran away from his son Absalom. Lord, I have many enemies! Many people have turned against me. Many are saying about me, ‘God won’t rescue him.’” (Psalm 3:1-2, NCV)

I have never faced the enemies David faced but there have been many times in my life when experiences and situations have screamed, “You are helpless against me even God will not help you!”

Just before his death the cross screamed at Jesus, “You are helpless against me even God will not help you.” But the cross was WRONG! While God allowed Jesus to experience what you and I experience many, many times, God did rescue Jesus. “But, Lord, you are my shield, my wonderful God who gives me courage. I will pray to the Lord, and he will answer me from his holy mountain.” (Psalm 3:3-4, NCV) When I close my eyes and open myself up to my imagination the “holy mountain” I visualize is not a mountain of stone but a mountain of wood in the form of a cross.

Some visualize Jesus’ crucifixion on the cross as an ugly, painful and violent form of death (which it is) but for me it is also a powerful symbol of life and a personal invitation from Jesus to “commit my spirit” to him so I can be rescued.

Because God rescued Jesus, Jesus sends into our lives the Holy Spirit to not only rescue us but to comfort us as well! “I can lie down and go to sleep, and I will wake up again, because the Lord gives me strength. Thousands of troops may surround me, but I am not afraid.” (Psalms 2:5-6, NCV)

In the Old Testament, one of the things God was persistent about was to tell people remember the captivity of their ancestors in Egypt because when they did it was much easier for them to see how God was blessing them. That also applies to us when I think back on those times when it felt as if I was nailed to a cross (not literally) then I can really appreciate the blessings of my rescue from the tomb (not a literal tomb, at least not yet).

How about you, what are your memories? What are your blessings?

Grace and PEACE!
Gary
