How would one know if they were becoming a Mormon?
LDS Members Only.jpg
A couple of days ago I posted up a thread here because I misunderstood something that had been said to me in a thread about the unity of the three Monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
As it was a double barreled question involving the beliefs of one other religion and LDS (which some refer to as Mormonism) the thread was moved to Comp. Religions which I certainly don't mind as I had to split the thread and start another .
Though I misunderstood the initial question, another question was fast on it's heels: I was wondering exactly how would one know if they were becoming a Mormon? What would be the tell tale signs? etc.
I request that only member of the LDS be allowed to participate in this thread.
Peace,
Eric

What's with the graffiti on the sign?
"I think we may accept it as a rule that whenever a person's

Re: How would one know if they were becoming a Mormon?
It's my way of saying 'L.D.S Only' plus the thread starter, which is me. I guess it's a knee-jerk reaction to the spot of difficulty I have been having with certain non-L.D.S members and not wanting to go through that all over again, I thought I need to send a strong message out there to discourage them from posting to this thread. If it is any way offensive to you, I apologize and hope that it will in no way spoil our chat.
I look forward to any thoughts you might like to present here, as well as other member of the L.D.S.
Peace,
Eric.

Hi Eric
Well one way would be if when you read The Book of Mormon and pray about it, you receive a powerful stirring in your heart/bosom.
I will admit, I joined and was baptized before I did this. When I heard the gospel, and saw it answering all my questions about biblical teachings I had received from elsewhere, I just knew it was true. Plus I really liked the members. They were truly so friendly. They seemed to truly live the gospel of Christ. It was easy for me to join. I was excited to, and loved it.

You will start to grow horns.
I'm kidding, of course. What makes you suspect that you may be becoming a Mormon?"Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world.
And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in c\taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning."

Thank you for your straight up reply, RevT.
Where is this 'heart/bosom' you speak of?
When you use the phrases 'the gospel' or 'the gospel of Christ' what do you mean?
People are often friendly when one agrees with them, but can as easily change should one disagree.

Eric

Re: How would one know if they were becoming a Mormon?
I have two copies of the book of Mormon and sometimes read a passage or two and though I don't always agree with what I read sometimes what is written seems to be similar to what I read in the Bible, if you know what I mean? I also have a tiny booklet titled "Why I Believe The Book of Mormon to be The Word of God" by William A. Morton and I read something at the back that had me wondering about these plates. You know, maybe they were telling the truth about them?
Here's what they agreed to:
THE TESTIMONY OF THREE WITNESSES
'Be it known unto all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people, unto whom this work shall come: That we, through the grace of God the Father , and our Lord Jesus Christ , have seen the plates which contain this record, ....'
On the next page a similar statement was made by eight other witnesses:
'Be it known unto all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people, unto whom this work shall come: That Joseph Smith, Jun., the translator of this work, has shown unto us the plates of which hath been spoken, which have the appearance of gold; and as many leaves as the said Smith translated and did handle with our hands; and we also saw the engravings thereon, all of which has the appearance of ancient work, and of curious workmanship. And this we bear record with words of soberness, that the said Smith has shown unto us, for we have seen and hefted, and know of a surety that the said Smith has got the plates of which we have spoken. And we give our names unto the world, to witness unto the world that which we have seen. And we lie not, God bearing witness of it.'
Peace,
Eric

Re: How would one know if they were becoming a Mormon?
For me it's more about the obstacles that would stop me from becoming a Mormon. (refer: Post 11) I mean there is a sense in which I think that before I consider anything as final as that, I'd need to have worked through this:
Post 11:

Re: How would one know if they were becoming a Mormon?
With me the feeling I get seems to be my whole chest area, but seems to emanate from my core. It of course is interpreted in my brain, so involves my whole upper body. It's not a physical sensory sensation though so maybe it is just in my brain. I'm sure that is utterly confusing, but seems about the best I can describe it.
The gospel I was referring to was what I accepted at the time I was converted - which was the Bible. Now for me it includes other scripture - The Book of Mormon, D & C, and the Pearl of Great Price.

Re: How would one know if they were becoming a Mormon?
You're right about that.
What are your thoughts about Jesus' time in the wilderness? You know his time of testing and the specific tests that he went through?
Oh? The Bible = the gospel ? Now that includes The Book of Mormon, D & C, and the Pearl of Great Price? The gospel I was referring to was what I accepted at the time I was converted - which was the Bible.
