      If Christianity ....

If Christianity is in essence neither a creed, nor a code, nor ceremonies, what is it?

God sacrificing himself to himself to save humanity from himself???

Better creeds and rituals, I suppose. Not sure what you mean by codes.

      Peace,

No religion "in essence" is any one of those things. Christianity, like most religions, is all those things. I don't understand your question.

      A very successful neolithic cult.
Anytime theology hits on something that is true, it is because it is from another discipline. One cannot have a field of knowledge built on something that essentially amounts to dressed-up agnosticism.

Eric, you need to stop trying to micromanage every thread you start. You can't just go around making restrictions on everything. Once in a while is OK, but we don't have the resources to watch every thread you make and enforce your arbitrary rules. We are a volunteer staff here.

so your restriction in this thread is null and void.

Christianity is not in essence any one thing. Christianity is the name we give to a broad range of opinion, culture, theology and belief that is centred on the person of Jesus Christ.

If you wanted to restrict this thread to atheists, why didn't you just post it in Naturalism 201?

I've often wondered about the discussion we had about this (All Those Years Ago) and I'm sure all things considered whatever this verse means in it's 20/20 context there's much we will never be able to figure out in respect of the Christian doctrine of the atonement:

'11 In him we were also chosen, [e] having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.'

[e] Ephesians 1:11 Or were made heirs

      Ephesians 1 NIV

      Peace,
      Eric

This view reminds me of a cake with way too much icing on it.
