Re: Temple Marriage and outsiders
His judgement of the Jews. Matt 24 in specific.
Ever heard of apocalyptic writing? Look at Acts 2I know there are a lot of Christians who believe that the great and dreadful day of the Lord is past, and there is not going to be another one. But I believe it is coming.
Why would the earth be smitten with a curse if the hearts of the children are not turned to their fathers? And vise versa?
I've explained what we believe and the reason for it. We both already know that what I believe, you would not.
Act 2:15 "For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day;
Act 2:16 but this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel:
Act 2:17 'AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS,' God says, 'THAT I WILL POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT ON ALL MANKIND; AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY, AND YOUR YOUNG MEN SHALL SEE VISIONS, AND YOUR OLD MEN SHALL DREAM DREAMS;
Act 2:18 EVEN ON MY BONDSLAVES, BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, I WILL IN THOSE DAYS POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT And they shall prophesy.
Act 2:19 'AND I WILL GRANT WONDERS IN THE SKY ABOVE AND SIGNS ON THE EARTH BELOW, BLOOD, AND FIRE, AND VAPOR OF SMOKE.
Act 2:20 'THE SUN WILL BE TURNED INTO DARKNESS AND THE MOON INTO BLOOD, BEFORE THE GREAT AND GLORIOUS DAY OF THE LORD SHALL COME.
Act 2:21 'AND IT SHALL BE THAT EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.'
Peter says that Pentecost was what Joel's prophecy was being fulfilled right then. Please tell me when the moon turned to blood that day at Pentecost...I may not yet be as old as dirt, but dirt and I are starting to have an awful lot in common... Re: Temple Marriage and outsiders
Here in the UK a couple gets married in church first and then later the same day or - the next if too far away to travel to Temple on the same day - the sealing takes place. So at least in the UK and some other countries non-member family and friends can attend the marriage ceremony. My husband and I were married in Bournemouth Chapel in the morning in front of family and friends, and travelled to the London Temple to be sealed in the late afternoon.

I should elaborate - in the UK it is a legal requirment for a marriage to take place in a public venue and for a Registrar to witness the marriage before you can sign the marriage certificate.

Re: Temple Marriage and outsiders
Thats always been the case as Temples are not public buildings.
Also the 12th Article of Faith states: "We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates in obeying honouring, and sustaining the law".SAVE A LIFE - ADOPT A GREYHOUND

Re: Temple Marriage and outsiders
The thing is, weren't these things supposed to be "commands from God"? If I knew that something was commanded of me by God, I wouldn't care about disobeying a countries laws where they conflicted(like Daniel, and many other Christians who wouldn't worship anyone other than God). Do you think that Daniel should have been unfaithful to God's commandments not to worship anyone other than Him? What about the early Christians in Rome? That's what's at issue on this for me.

And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in c\taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning."

Re: Temple Marriage and outsiders
One of the girls at work is married to one of our local bishops. I asked her about it and her thought was that the waiting period was geared more toward new converts. and didn't see an issue if the hypothetical couple were already temple recommend holders having less time between a civil wedding and sealing. She and her husband were sealed 6 months after their wedding. (She had been a member for a year when they were sealed.) She also didn't think there was anything against having the Temple ceremony followed closely by a civil ceremony.
