Re: Is it OK to lie to get a Temple Recommend?
Yup I'm taking a break from the LDS Forum.
Someone bumped this post from 5/24 and I took off like an idiot.
Evidently, I'm way to close to the LDS getting picked on deal.
Several people pointed this out to me and it just went . . . whose right over my head.
My punishment will be that I'll be apologizing to CP, Sparko, and Bill and every other Twebber from now until the Apocalypse.
So I'll start now . . .
I screwed up, I didn't read the date closely and made a fool out of myself in front of the entire Twebbers Forum.
Specifically I have to . . . gulp . . . apologize to Sparko . . Sorry Sparko.
I have to apologize to Cp . . Sorry Cp.
I have to apologize to Bill . . Sorry Bill.
I have to apologize to every other Twebber . . . Sorry Tweb for making such a fuss over nothing.
The good news is I'm personally banning myself from the LDS forum cause I've totally lost perspective.

I don't think you should banish yourself.
You have a gift for livening things up. You have friends here."I think we may accept it as a rule that whenever a person's
religious conversation dwells chiefly, or even frequently,
on the faults of other people's religions, she/he is in a bad condition."

After reading the BoM 3 times, and praying the prayer, the Holy Spirit has very clearly let me know that Smith is a false prophet and the BoM is a work of fiction.
Isn't that the same way you "know" that Smith is a REAL prophet, and the BoM is "scripture"?
constantly? What you are constantly trying to say
Actually, I don't believe I have EVER said that. And it wouldn't necessarily be that many, because a lot of those are inactive, and are not as wrong as the others.is that nearly 15M members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints are wrong.

The correctness (or error) of a belief is not established by the number of people who adhere to that belief. If that were true, then within Christianity, everyone should go be mainstream Christian--after all, you're trying to say that 2.2 billion mainstream Christians are wrong.

Re: Is it OK to lie to get a Temple Recommend?
I have to agree that it's entirely possible for millions of people to be wrong about something. That's pretty much what we LDS say about some beliefs of post-apostolic Christendom for literally centuries. If, say, 50 million people believed in Trinitarianism for 1600 years, and 10 million more believed Calvinism for 500 years, that adds up to a lot of people being wrong on an issue.
Or, 1/3 of the hosts of heaven being wrong about whether it was a good idea to rebel against God and try to take over heaven--that is probably a lot of souls who were wrong there, too."I think we may accept it as a rule that whenever a person's
religious conversation dwells chiefly, or even frequently,
on the faults of other people's religions, she/he is in a bad condition."
-C.S. Lewis (Collected Letters Vol. 3 p. 209).

Every time I hear or read that story, I keep thinking of my cat.
No, really, it makes sense. My cat was a very laid-back character, except when we had to put him in the car to go somewhere. He HATED the car! So what he would do is crawl under one of the seats and yowl--endlessly--until the car stopped.
We called it his "We're all gonna DIIIIIEEEE!" song.
He passed away a few months ago, but he had lived to be sixteen years of age (pretty good for a cat), and was spoiled throughout his life.Life sometimes needs to be grabbed by the throat and beaten with a lead pipe. ~ Sir Longpost, a good friend of mine.

Re: Is it OK to lie to get a Temple Recommend?
Actually, no, it wasn't
How I came to my own Testimony of the Book of Mormon and of Joseph Smith has absolutely NOTHING to do with you.
You see you keep making ridiculous assumptions about stuff you know nothing about!! As do most anti-Mormons.
Folks like you read the anti-Mormon sites and think/believe that they are true, that they post facts - which they do not.
For the most part they are made up of members whom have been excommunicated for wrong-doings and feel that they have a grudge against the Church.Latter-Day Saint by conversion.

Both your experience, and CP's are quite possible--because the "burning in the bosom" is a subjective experience.
LDSAngel, let me ask you a question ... if I were to make an assertion, based on my Book of Shadows, that you knew to be false ... would you argue the point with me, and attempt to dissuade me from my error?Life sometimes needs to be grabbed by the throat and beaten with a lead pipe. ~ Sir Longpost, a good friend of mine.

Re: Is it OK to lie to get a Temple Recommend?
But it is still wrong. Whether you believe it or not, the BOM is fiction.
You have no clue what we know or don't know. You've only been a member here for a few weeks. You see you keep making ridiculous assumptions about stuff you know nothing about!!
Ah.. the old "most" fallacy. Unless you have spoken to every "Anti-Mormon" in existence, and can statistically show that over half of them (the definition of most) are wrong on Mormonism's claims, then you have done nothing but posted a fallacious emotional rant.As do most anti-Mormons.
Sure they do! I'll pick one "anti-Mormon" site and post one fact, which will refute your claim:Folks like you read the anti-Mormon sites and think/believe that they are true, that they post facts - which they do not.
Do you dispute that fact?
Again, unless you have interviewed every one of them, and discovered their reason for leaving, you have fallaciously made an emotional rant. For the most part they are made up of members whom have been excommunicated for wrong-doings and feel that they have a grudge against the Church.I may not yet be as old as dirt, but dirt and I are starting to have an awful lot in common... Why the anger? I asked a question.
It was a question. You see you keep making ridiculous assumptions about stuff you know nothing about!!
We're learning.As do most anti-Mormons.
"folks like you"? How do you know what I read. I MOSTLY read FairMormon.org.Folks like you read the anti-Mormon sites and think/believe that they are true, that they post facts - which they do not.
How do you know that? How do you know that a lot of them didn't begin to see the truth after initially being deceived by a false prophet and a false religion? For the most part they are made up of members whom have been excommunicated for wrong-doings and feel that they have a grudge against the Church.

EGGzackly. And I'm being a bit facetious when I shared "my experience", because it's NOT just that.... it's also comparison to the Bible, and a number of other things, including extensive exchanges with Tweb Mormons.

But Tech gets my point... how can the same Holy Spirit confirm that Joseph Smith is both a TRUE prophet and a FALSE one? It obviously has to go beyond the subjective.
