Bad Boys, Bad Boys, Whatcha Gonna do?

      OK. silly title.

but here is my question, and it is not a "trap" and I will be glad to answer the equivalent of it myself, plainly after I get a plain answer from the Mormons here. Deal?

Are you more dedicated to believing the truth, no matter what it is, or to your LDS faith? And here is what I mean by that...

Let's say you died and were standing before God. God tells you that you had it all wrong, that Smith made it all up and that the orthodox Christians had it right all along. He is a triune being, that he created everything including matter, he has no wife, there was no premortal existence for you, you won't become a God, etc, etc.

At that point would you tell God that you repudiate everything you believed, apologize to God and fall on your knees and tell him that you worship him as he truly is and ask for forgiveness for your folly? Or do you stick to your guns and claim that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that you will believe what the LDS church taught you no matter what? Would you think that you were being "tested" by God or something and refuse to admit you believed wrongly?

My best friend's dad has been teaching Paulean studies for 25 years at a Bible college in Georgia. He was actually consulted by the translators of the NASB during their review of the text back in the early 2000's. He told me a funny story. He said he fully expects to go to heaven and meet Paul, and get a firm facepalm from Paul saying "boy YOU got it wrong!"

If God shows me how and where I got it wrong on that great day, I will freely admit to Him that I was in the wrong, and ask for forgiveness.

Keep in mind LDS believe we existed before coming to Earth. I would imagine we would know as soon as we died whether we got it wrong or not.

I personally wouldn't be arguing with the almighty :) To me, God is first - orginised religion is second.
But in answer to your OP. I would apologise yes and beg his forgiveness for me and all my loved ones.

I daresay we ALL will know as soon as we die, regardless of what church we go to, or don't go to for that matter.

As a completely unrelated aside, the gift shop at the hospital where I work got a line of decorative hand towels with cute/funny/mushy sayings. One of them says: "God always answers prayer. Sometimes he says 'yes'. Sometiomes he says 'no'. But most of the time he says 'you've got to be kidding!'."

Another one says: "You'll be my best friend forever. You know too much."

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

I believe that God put me on this Earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Right now I am so far behind I will never die.

Good for you. If I die and God tells me I was wrong, I'm going to believe his judgment over my own. Some pastors tell the anecdote of a little old lady in Scotland who was asked by her pastor, "What if God doesn't let you into heaven when you die?" and she replied that she would call God out on reneging on his promise to save those who believed in him. Personally I think that's the wrong answer. If God says I didn't have enough faith, or faith in the right God/things, he knows better than I do. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding."

Ok I said I would answer the question too.

I want to worship the true God, so if I found out I was worshiping a false god or had false ideas about God, I would toss them out in a second and beg forgiveness from the true God. To me truth is more important than beliefs.

And by the time you are dead, it's too late to ask forgiveness.

I always wondered what universalists think God would do with those people who would be spitting mad when they encountered him after death.

At least according to orthodox Christian theology. Since we're both orthodox Christians, we wouldn't be wrong about it assuming orthodox Christianity is true.
