Re: Bad Boys, Bad Boys, Whatcha Gonna do?
So, since you claim he is so merciful, why even bother with hell? Why not just give everyone mercy? Big deal if they didn't accept the Gospel. His mercy should be sufficient. If He is just wise and merciful, then why not universalism?
I'm not Calvinist, Jeff.If He's not all that, then He doesn't deserve my respect either, let alone my worship. After all, if my opinions were the result of ignorance, and God is really as Calvinism paints Him to be, then my very ignorance itself was pre-decided for me by God. So my culpability for my "flippant" attitude will be very insignificant.
It's a whole lot less arrogant than your response if you turn out to be wrong. Now let's move on to something I find quite interesting: Your answers to my questions about "Whatcha Gonna Do?" if LDS beliefs about God turn out to be correct:
and let's compare how you plan to respond, to how Sparko plans to respond:I may not yet be as old as dirt, but dirt and I are starting to have an awful lot in common... Stephen Donaldson - Author of my favorite series (The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant)

I certainly wouldn't be an arrogant jerk. I'd ask for mercy.
I would still recognize that he's in charge, and it does me not good to try to be a smart-alek or a jerk.Like the LDS here, you are to assume the "impossible" has happened: That your beliefs might actually be incorrect.

Re: Bad Boys, Bad Boys, Whatcha Gonna do?
yeah but "no further opportunity" might only be if you (and I) were RIGHT. The whole point of my hypothetical was what if we are wrong (and that includes the LDS) - so maybe it would NOT be the end.
If you died and found out that what we believe about God was wrong, and God was really Brahma, or the LDS God, or perhaps some divine being we never even imagined in our faith, would you be more interested in worshiping God as he truly IS, or in holding on to your current beliefs? Is truth more important than beliefs? That is basically what I am asking.
If I were wrong and even if there were no further opportunity for me after death, and God was going to send me to hell, I would still have to admit that he was God and has the right to send me anywhere he wants to, and I would worship him as God and ask his forgiveness.
Like everyone else here, I sincerely don't think I am wrong in my faith, but this is a hypothetical.
