Do YEC's eat bacon?
Do YEC's eat bacon? Many Christian's like a bit of pork. But is this not inconsistant with insistance on the truth of the creation story in Genesis?

You might want to 'flesh' out your argument/question a bit better, because I don't really see the problem.
And yes, I eat bacon.

Re: Do YEC's eat bacon?
Without getting into the arguments for either, It could be the case:
1.) YEC is true and Christians need to follow the dietary laws given to the Israelites
2.) YEC is false and Christians need to follow the dietary laws given to the Israelites
3.) YEC is true and Christians don't need to follow the dietary laws given to the Israelites
4.) YEC is false and Christians don't need to follow the dietary laws given to the Israelites
Each belief is completely independent of the other, so there is no inconsistency to holding any combination of them."Faith is nothing less than the will to keep one's mind fixed precisely on what reason has discovered to it." - Edward Feser
"Faith and reason are the shoes on your feet. You can travel further with both than you can with just one." - Alwyn Macomber

I am afraid I don't see how ones view of the age of the earth could impact the eating of bacon.
He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8)

Re: Do YEC's eat bacon?
Early Christianity (before the NT) seems to be about re-interpretating the Hebrew Bible (a Gentile takeover??). I am trying to understand how in modern Christian fundamentalism the food laws and circumcision are allegorised but the creation story and the flood are not.

Re: Do YEC's eat bacon?
Well you are beginning from a mistaken premise then. The OT laws aren't allegorized. They are seen for what they are, laws made for a specific nation at a specific time, and some of these just aren't relevant to a Christian. Christians are under the "New Covenant", and the "Old Covenant" is not binding on us.I suggest watching these 3 vids at this link http://www.youtube.com/user/tektontv...Testament+Law+

Re: Do YEC's eat bacon?
Hi Firstfloor,
If you'd asked simply, "Why do Christians eat bacon?", the answers given a couple of times above would suffice.
However, as you've couched the issue in terms of a supposed discrepancy with YEC, i.e. between a 'literal' and an 'allegorical' approach to the OT, there's one very important general consideration I'd like to point out to you:
On the one hand, as already noted on this thread, the NT abolishes the OT food laws several times over - as I recall, in Matthew 15, Mark 7, Luke 11, Acts 10-11 and 15, Romans 14, 1 Corinthians 8 and 10, Colossians 2, 1 Timothy 4 and Hebrews 13 - maybe elsewhere too.
On the other hand, not only does the NT say nothing at all to cast doubt on the impression of YEC gained from a straightforward reading of the OT, it actually reaffirms and reinforces it several ways in several places, e.g. respecting the historicity of Adam, the universality of Noah's Flood, the coevality of the world and mankind, and more.
