---Seems like the confusion is more on the part of the anti-LDS folks. The admitted, alleged hoaxers were presumably Protestant Christians, and if their most recent "confession" is the truth, then they were "lying for the Lord," or, to be more precise, HOAXING for the Lord. Is that what real Christians are supposed to do?
Prior to this, I had never even HEARD of "Lying for the Lord", which led me to start this thread.

Only a small subset of them--deceiving ones who weren't acting the way real ones are supposed to act. CONTEXT, CP. It CAN be helpful.

Plus, when I used the term "Lying for the Lord" I used these things called "quotation marks" because the first time I saw the term, it was being used by anti-LDS people to malign us.

It was right there in the open, Jeff... and it's not like YOU only chime in when something is addressed specifically to you.

You SAY those words, but if you could only put them into PRACTICE!

Well, watch the video again (Sparko just posted it), and you'll find one of YOUR guys TEACHING it!

See? The term was NOT coined by the pro-LDS--it was invented by the antis, by all available evidence. Thanks for the corroboration.

eh? The video is by a Mormon who uses the term to teach missionaries how to avoid telling the truth.

Still checking this out, Jeff, but it appears it came from Ken Clark who was one of YOUR guys in your Church Education System.

I have read the term on this forum, and I wanted to make sure it was accurate. CP appears to be the first one I have seen use the specific term, but the video provided shows a Mormon using this method. Now, if you would like to go over WHY I am wrong, I will completely remove it from the thread if I can still edit it. If I can't edit it, I will write it again, and will have in large letters.

The point is sailing over your head. Who COINED THE TERM? WHO INVENTED IT TO DESCRIBE WHAT THEY FEEL MILLET IS ADVOCATING?

      Possible Answer:

About Born again mormon - "Heart of the matter"
We love mormons so much, we are willing to tell them the painful truth - so that they may be saved by Jesus, by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone.

Yeah, pay NO ATTENTION to the fact that the Mormons DO it... worry more about who came up with the NAME!

It's a lot like the term "Lying for God" that ex-Christians and atheists came up with. So, it seems to me like the same kind of spirit of influence working in both anti-Mormons AND anti-Chrisrians.
"Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world.
And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in c\taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning."

As far as I know, OC, "Lying for God" deals particularly with the Adventists, where some former Adventists expose some of the teachings of their Church.
SIMILAR, I'll admit, to the way Ken Clark, a former Mormon CES Director, deals with teachings of HIS former Church.

I've seen a number of anti-Christian sites that use the term, sites that don't discuss Adventism. The anti-Christian approach looks a lot like the anti-Mormon approach. Both seem to be authored by the same spirit and influence.

Well, since I said that, OC, I found some more NON-Adventist references. It's just that the Adventist ones came up first. So, on that point, you may well be right.

AS for the "same spirit and influence".... you say that like it's a BAD thing. Is it wrong for somebody who believes they were lied to to expose the fact that they believe they were lied to? Does that necessarily suggest an "evil" spirit? (and, no, I'm not claiming that you SAID "evil", but that seemed to be the implication)

There is also the phrase "Lying for Jesus", which anti-Christians use frequently. Inspired by the same spirit and influence.
