Experiencing the invisible God...

Want to read something that will scare you? Try this on for size… “We live by what we believe, not by what we can see.” (2 Corinthians 5:7, NCV) It’s scary because we live in a materialistic world where seeing is believing, where if you can’t put it under a microscope and examine it and clearly define toss it aside. The author of Hebrews chapter 11 (the chapter on faith) addresses the subject of “seeing is believing” very nicely and realistically puts the matter to rest. “It was by faith that Moses left the land of Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger. He kept right on going because he kept his eyes on the one who is invisible.” (Hebrews 11:27, NLT, emphasis mine)
If God were standing 3 feet in front of you he still couldn’t be seen? The question is how do you keep your eyes on someone who is invisible? The answer isn’t as hard as you may think, in fact it as simple as looking in your memory. One of the most effective, powerful, and well-known stories out of the Old Testament on experiencing the Invisible God at working in you through the Holy Spirit is found in chapter 37 of Ezekiel. “So, I spoke this message, just as he told me. Suddenly as I spoke, there was a rattling noise all across the valley. The bones of each body came together and attached themselves as complete skeletons. Then as I watched, muscles and flesh formed over the bones. Then skin formed to cover their bodies, but they still had no breath in them… So, I spoke the message as he commanded me, and breath came into their bodies. They all came to life and stood up on their feet—a great army.” (Ezekiel 37:7–8, 10, NLT)
While the Old Testament ends with a great army this morning if we see it pertaining to the building of our faith/belief system then the bones, muscles, flesh, and breath of Ezekiel’s vision have really been times when God’s richest blessing have been ours. It has been said that hindsight is 20/20, and as we look back over our lives we can see the times when the presence of the Holy Spirit has blessed us out of the storms wreaking havoc on our lives. Those experiences provide us with the vision and courage to live by what we believe not necessarily by what we see. We can boldly live our life/living (life is what we have, living is what we do with it) by our belief system because we can see our belief system developing in our memories rearview mirror. We cannot see the invisible God but we can experience Him at work therefore we can believe He is leading us into the future because He has left His Indelible Heart Print for us to see.
