This shop owner had been tearing pages out and selling them one at a time.
That is disturbing in itself, and I wonder if maybe the thief may have stolen it to prevent her from tearing out any more pages.If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

Stealing is stealing. If the owner wanted to burn the book, that would have been his/her right since it was their property. That would not give anyone the right to steal it.

You are right about that, Sparko. It will be interesting to find out, if the police crack the case, who the theif was and what his or her motivation might have been.
