I'm not exactly sure that 'go die in a housefire' is the sort of thing a Christian ought to be saying, even if it's metaphorical. Even if it's hyperbolic. What the heck?

I only used the line for illustrative purposes, to draw out how extreme a caricature the statement I was railing against represents. I agree, it's not the sort of thing a Christian should say and it's not something I think JP would say. I could see how someone could change it to be absurd without being violent or hateful, but I'll leave that to JP.

No. It was an absurdist expression of something which annoys me: characterizing JP's use of insults as being about mere disagreement, often accompanied by some exaggerated account of how horrible JP has been. In the case of some, such as probably Symph himself, it has to do with sensitivity. But that's not really the point of the mini-rant.

The term riposte IS a misrepresentation of Holding's Insults for Christ paradigm. I can't think of any Christian leaders who agree with his using childish insults, name-calling, etc. I don't think you can, either.
