A Glory Seed Devotional
When I am afraid…

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?” (Psalms 56:3-4 ESV)

Fear is often seen as one of our greatest enemies. Fear can cripple a person from fulfilling their goals in life. Fear can shatter a relationship. Fear can come between a person and their need for medical treatment. As powerful, a deterrent as fear also has the potential of being a powerful ally.

Fear a potential ally? How can something so debilitating be a powerful friend? Perhaps this will help us understand. “After Jesus left in a boat with his disciples, a terrible storm suddenly struck the lake, and waves started splashing into their boat. Jesus was sound asleep, so the disciples went over to him and woke him up. They said, ‘Lord, save us! We're going to drown!’ But Jesus replied, ‘Why are you so afraid? You surely don't have much faith.’ Then he got up and ordered the wind and the waves to calm down. And everything was calm.” (Matthew 8:23-26 CEV)

Fear is a powerful reminder that we have gone as far as we can. While the above story doesn’t give us, the details of what happened being seasoned fishermen and familiar with sailing in all probability they tried to sail the ship through the storm by themselves. But they reached the point where they knew their efforts were pointless and drowning was inevitable so in fear they did the only thing they could, they turned to the one who could save them! I remember the first time I was wheeled toward an operating room fearful of what would happen to me so in fear I looked at the ceiling and in my mind rehearsing the 23rd Psalm.

I’ve stated on a few occasions of my great fear the dark yet now when I find myself in a darkened place fear no longer haunts me instead it’s a powerful reminder that, “I may walk through valleys as dark as death, but I won't be afraid. (Jesus) You are with me, and your shepherd's rod makes me feel safe.”
(Psalms 23:4 CEV)

When we give our fear to Jesus, he gives it back to us in the form of trust! “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?” (Psalms 56:3-4 ESV)

Got fear?
Give it to Jesus!

Grace and PEACE!
