Re: Dems reject ban on gender-selective abortion.

We already criminalize thought to an extent in that attempted murder and conspiracy are against the law. And frankly, this isn't purely criminalizing thought alone - it's criminalizing thoughts leading to certain actions. I think the value of human life is worth far, far more than any alleged small infringement upon thought here. So they can justify their "no" votes all they want - they voted in favor of eugenics.

I oppose late term abortion, specifically whenever we have good reason to believe a fetus has gained inner awareness. I support abortion (if desired) before then.

Though, yes, the point applies to selecting which gametes go together (which will be a much more effective way to control traits than aborting a natural pairing after the fact). Abortion and genotype selection should be evaluated as separate issues.

"Conspiracy" is bad law. Should be repealed.
And I believe "attempted murder" is not thought, but an overt action.

I gotta say, I'm disappointed in how many pro-lifers here aren't supporting this legislation.

Why? I am pro-life, and I don't support it. It is useless. I don't support useless legislation. By supporting it, it can send the message that well as long as it isn't for THAT reason, while its not that bad.

I see it as useful as placing abortion proponents on record as supporting present-day eugenics, which we as a movement can effectively use against them.

Legislation isn't required to do it. Conservatives should not be in support of even more legislation. Education will serve that purpose.

Fair enough. I'm not a conservative apart from on social issues so I'm not philosophically opposed in any way to legislation per se. Either way, I'm glad that this issue has reached the public sphere of discussion.

We can agree that the public discussion is good. I think the documentaries and public exposes are the way to handle it.

Yup. Even with RvW in place, 75% of abortion clinics nation wide have been closed in the last 25 years.

No, it is not. If you forced a woman whose father raped and impregnated her to have the baby, you'd be morally wrong to do so. One morning after pill would take care of that problem with no baby being hurt.

I just demonstrated it's not so black and white, which is all I wanted to do. Don't insinuate I'm for eugenics or any of that fundamentalist crap. Stay on topic please. It's not entirely right and not entirely wrong, is it?
