      Re: Karen Armstrong

Karen Armstrong talks about the gap between fundamentalists and liberals in different countries at 44:36 in this interview:
      http://meaningoflife.tv/video.php?sp...topic=complete
She puts it down to pain, fear, anger and humiliation suffered by the fundamentalist, as seen from the liberal perspective. What is the fundamentalist point of view of this schism?

      Re: Karen Armstrong

I have listened to this lecture a few times. It gives an excellent overview of her philosophy about God and religion. It explains Mythos and Logos and why we should talk much less about God and instead seek to discover transcendence through the practice of compassion. An Evening with Karen Armstrong.

      Re: Karen Armstrong

Armstrong has a lot to offer the concerned reader. I appreciate her literature very much.
Anytime theology hits on something that is true, it is because it is from another discipline. One cannot have a field of knowledge built on something that essentially amounts to dressed-up agnosticism.

I have found her books to be illuminating and never shrill or overstated. I particularly admire her current work on compassion.

I have also read and listened to Armstrong, and as a theist do not take the strong adversarial position against Armstrong as many traditional theists do. Armstrong shares many things in common with the Baha'i Faith.

After listening to the video, more specifically her views on mythos-logos, science and religion, and the problem of the nature of conflict between religions concerning the nature of the Divine. Her lectures mirror many 20th century writers on the the Baha'i going back to Abdul'baha from 1890 to 1912.

I am encouraged by that, thank you. There is certainly a great deal of wisdom to be found beyond Christianity.
