      Telling Others about Christ

If you tell someone about the gospel of Jesus Christ and he says that he would like to repent of his sins and receive Christ as His Lord and Savior, what would you say to him? A lot of people will lead others to pray about their salvation, but this can mislead people into thinking that salvation is received by saying a certain prayer.

If someone tells you that he has heard about Jesus and doesn't want to believe in Him, then what would you say to him?

I would ask him why not. If it's a simple logical hang-up, that can at least be addressed. If it's emotional in nature, that's more difficult to respond to because it's inherently irrational. (However, admittedly, if somebody is phrasing it like that, it's probably more likely to be emotional in nature).

There is nothing inherently wrong with leading someone in the sinners prayer. In fact, some might say its the first act of discipleship. Of course, one should make clear the the prayer is not what saves a person, Jesus is.

I would say that they should make sure that the person knows that saying a certain prayer doesn't make them saved and that truely accepting Jesus into their lives as their Lord and Savior and living for God is what makes you saved. Also I would be careful of just leading people to accept Jesus and not do any kind of follow up. After they accept Jesus you need to follow up by helping them to learn God's word and help them live by it.

Then if somebody tells you that he has heard about Jesus and doesn't want to believe in Him then there isn't really much to say. Like it says in Proverbs 23:9 Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, For he will despise the wisdom of your words. So pretty much all you can do is pray for him and pray that the Lord softens his heart to accept Christ.

I'll keep this in mind the next time I talk to someone about Christ. I don't want to say "Ok" and then walk away.

I could tell them to pray about their own salvation.
