Why are you LDS / Mormon?
No catch, no tricks just a simple question.
Why are you LDS / Mormon? Why not Catholic, Protestant, Anglican or another church / religion?“Don’t judge me because I sin differently than you do.”

Re: Why are you LDS / Mormon?
I've been Protestant, Catholic, Non-Denominational.....I've been around the block. I chose the LDS Church because its teaching were most compatible with my own, so after much study, prayer and confirmation, I decided to be baptized. Life's been pretty good since then.

Because I don't see a better life for me and my family, either in the present or in the afterlife, as a member of "the competition." If that changes someday, and I see it being more advantageous to switch, it would be foolish not to defect to that greener grass.

Re: Why are you LDS / Mormon?
So, it's all which one has a better life both here and now, and in the afterlife, and you don't care if it's true or not? Just asking for clarification.
I'm not trying to be harsh to either of you, but both of you sound like you are LDS for purely emotional reasons, and not much is based in reality or truth.

Re: Why are you LDS / Mormon?
Happy to clarify: If I didn't believe it was TRUE, then why would I believe I could have a better life by following it? Whether it's true or not is the basis for determining that living it will improve my life.
That's okay, I have misunderstood what people were saying, too.I'm not trying to be harsh to either of you, but both of you sound like you are LDS for purely emotional reasons, and not much is based in reality or truth.

I came to Jesus, not because of the "greener grass", but because He is True. In fact, when the Bible tells us "all who live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution", you wouldn't think "greener grass" is necessarily the indicator of "Truth". I've had good times and tough times as a Christian, but I'm not necessarily along for "the fun" or the "green grass" here in THIS life --- it's the ETERNAL life I'm really looking forward to.
Meanwhile, I signed on for the whole trail ride.

Re: Why are you LDS / Mormon?
...and that's why you are LDS/Mormon ? Did you misunderstand the thread's title? It wasn't asking the non-LDS why they chose to be non-LDS.
BTW, it's BECAUSE "Jesus is true" that I expect that "better life for me and my family in the afterlife" that I mentioned. You're making it sound like LDS people become LDS for the fun and good times only, and they don't care that their beliefs are false and will send them to hell on Judgment Day. That's a....(switching to PC mode) an "inaccurate" appraisal of why we are LDS."I think we may accept it as a rule that whenever a person's
religious conversation dwells chiefly, or even frequently,
on the faults of other people's religions, she/he is in a bad condition."

I was answering the question that SHOULD have been asked, and directly responding to YOU. Were RESPONSES forbidden in the OP?

No, Jeff, I was responding to what you actually said. You didn't ONLY say "in the afterlife", you said....BTW, it's BECAUSE "Jesus is true" that I expect that "better life for me and my family in the afterlife" that I mentioned.
Because I don't see a better life for me and my family, either in the present or in the afterlife, as a member of "the competition."
You kinda sorta misquoted yourself.
Reread what you actually SAID, Jeff. You're making it sound like LDS people become LDS for the fun and good times only,
Sheeeesh... you OMIT part of what YOU said, and INVENT what I'm "thinking"?and they don't care that their beliefs are false and will send them to hell on Judgment Day.
You said....
I would suspect that this change would need to happen BEFORE the afterlife, so your "greener grass" claim sounds like the "in the present" that you conveniently left out of your "quote" of yourself. If that changes someday, and I see it being more advantageous to switch, it would be foolish not to defect to that greener grass.
Then try to be more "accurate" in the future. That's a....(switching to PC mode) an "inaccurate" appraisal of why we are LDS.

I actually think Jeff answered reasonably and it's a bit of a stretch to say 'Aha! You are only a mormon because of the goodies!' Obviously implicit in his answer is that he believes Mormonism is true and from that basis his answer follows and makes sense. I think he's wrong but it's a reasonable position.

Re: Why are you LDS / Mormon?
First I am LDS because I was raised in an LDS home. I can't ignore that fact and does influence me. However as one grows up they have to make decisions for themselves. Today I am LDS because it has proved the most satisfactory answers to the questions that I have about various issues. I don't pretend to know all the answers and I am learning new things and adjusting my views all the time. My views of how God would operate, who and what God is, and purpose of life simply makes sense to me from the LDS viewpoint. Looking at other systems simply does not give me the same level of understanding.
"All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed.Third, it is accepted as being self-evident." -- Arthur Schopenhauer
"It is the customary fate of new truths to begin as heresies." -- Thomas Huxley
"The simple answer is that animals do have spirits and that through the redemption made by our Savior they will come forth in the resurrection to enjoy the blessing of immortal life." -- Joseph Fielding Smith:
"God made the tadpole and the ape, the lion and the elephant; but He did not make them in His own image, nor endow them with Godlike reason and intelligence. Nevertheless, the whole animal creation will be perfected and perpetrated in the Hereafter, each class in its "distinct order or sphere," and will enjoy "eternal felicity." That fact has been made plain in this dispensation." -- Lorenzo Snow:
