A Glory Seed Devotional
More truth than fiction…

One warm summer evening as Jimmy the firefly was going about doing what he loved to do adding light to dark and dismal world he suddenly found himself confined to a very small area. Jimmy could see the world but when he tried flying toward it, he kept bumping into an invisible wall of some sort.
“Look what I’ve got in my jar,” Timmy said, painfully limping toward his grandmother. “Why you’ve captured a firefly, Timmy,” she replied. “Can I keep him?” the boy asked. Pausing for a moment, “You can if you want to, but if you do his light will eventually go out.” Timmy glanced at the jar where Jimmy was being held, “I’ll keep him until his light goes out then let him go,” the young boy replied.
Meanwhile inside the quart Mason jar, a firefly named Jimmy tried and tried to escape to the world he could see but not experience, minutes later (as fireflies measure time), “What is happening to me?” Jimmy asked, not really expecting an answer then finding a small branch the boy had added to the jar he landed in order to rest his tiring wings.
Suddenly Jimmy heard a voice, “You are in a glass jar, Jimmy.” Startled at first then seconds later (as fireflies measure time) “What’s a jar?” “A jar is a place where fireflies go to brighten the world of a small boy named Timmy,” the voice answered back. “I can see my beautiful world it but I can’t get back to it, why am I trapped in this jar?” Jimmy began feeling sad and at the same time, he began losing his will to light himself up. “I wanna go home,” he cried.
“I love my firefly, grandma I sure wish I could keep him forever.” Since capturing the tiny firefly Timmy’s grandmother noticed a change come over the small boy. She noticed a new glow around him, “Are you feeling okay, Timmy?” she asked. “I feel wonderful; Grandma I don’t feel sad anymore and even the pain in my legs is nearly gone. Is this what you call a miracle?” Grandmother looked at Timmy, looked at Jimmy, then looked into the starry night and said, “Your right, Timmy that’s what you call a miracle.”
“Jimmy,” the voice sounded. “I am here,” Jimmy replied. “Do you know because you cannot fly free you are a miracle?” “What’s a miracle?” Jimmy asked. “Do you see that giant holding you?” “Yes.” “His name in Timmy and his light is going out,” the voice replied. “What will happen when his light no longer shines?” “Just as you will not live if your light goes out he will no longer be able to live. But tonight your light has helped his light to shine brighter.”
All of a sudden, Jimmy was no longer sad and he flew from where he was sitting to the edge of the jar where Timmy could see him better than ever. And then a miracle to end all miracles took place as the boy and the fireflies eyes met for the first time there was a blinding flash of light. Then, “Grandma, the pain in my legs is gone! Look!” and Timmy took off running still holding the jar. When he stopped, he looked in the jar and saw Jimmy the Firefly lying in the bottom not moving.
“Jimmy,” the voice said, “Do you know what you just did?” Unable to move Jimmy answered, “No.” “You just gave your light so another could have light,” the voice replied. “But, I can’t move does that mean my light will no longer shine?” Jimmy asked. “No it doesn’t!”
“Is my firefly dead, grandma?” Timmy asked. “I don’t know. Open the jar and put him on the ground.” Seconds later (as people measure time) there was another blinding flash of light and a firefly named Jimmy flew back into his world.
The End!
Grace and PEACE!
