Re: Travel to interstellar planets ...
Sure, but you're still not saying anything special. As several other posters have noted, dozens of current realities are "right out of science fiction" from just a couple of generations ago. So it's not as if "right out of science fiction" means "it can't be done." It just means, "We haven't achieved it so far, but who knows what will happen next week?"

Let's cut to the quick ... this is for you as well as for those "others" that you mention.
Go ahead and tell me how you envision interstellar travel. Here's my prediction :
(1) You will either pull something that today is unadulterated science fiction (e.g., "quantum teleportation")
(2) I will shoot it down faster than you can say "boo"
(3) It will be based on totally unsupported speculation (making anything possible)
Sure, if you want a 'blank check' into which you can write "warp drive", "wormholes" or anything else
that pleases your fancy, then ANYTHING is possible. But, here I am holding your feet to the fire of
realistic science -- 'blank checks' are not allowed.
BTW, I am well aware that today there are things that just a generation ago would have belonged to
the realm of "science fiction". You people are missing the point. I am talking about "science fiction"
in the sense of things that either oppose known laws of physics and / or that amount to pulling "magic"
out of a hat. "Quantum teleportation" and "warp drive" are examples of this.
Go ahead .... I will wait for you and your band of compadres to post something worthwhile ........

A "luddite" --- you are sooooooooooo funny, Sparko.

FYI -- I have been self-employed for about 21 years now. During that time, I have designed and
manufactured fairly sophisticated equipment for the radiation oncology industry (to measure the
dose of radiation administered to patients) as well as others for measuring locomotive emissions.
This involves hardware, electronics and software conforming to supplied specifications (e.g., the
EPA specified a light source between 530nm and 570nm so I used a commercial LED of 555nm).
That's not even counting my 7+ years in the Air Force as a research scientist where I was awarded
the Air Force Scientific Achievement Award in 1979. A "luddite" ......... bwahahahaha
So, as you can see, with your post you have only succeeded in making yourself look stoooopid.
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Re: Travel to interstellar planets ...
Jorge is firmly of the "If man was meant to fly, God would have given him wings" school of thought.
Some other great failed predictions:
“Flight by machines heavier than air is unpractical (sic) and insignificant, if not utterly impossible.” – Simon Newcomb. 1 year before the Wright brothers flew.
“Heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible.” — Lord Kelvin, British mathematician and physicist, president of the British Royal Society, 1895
“To place a man in a multi-stage rocket and project him into the controlling gravitational field of the moon where the passengers can make scientific observations, perhaps land alive, and then return to earth – all that constitutes a wild dream worthy of Jules Verne. I am bold enough to say that such a man-made voyage will never occur regardless of all future advances.” — Lee DeForest,

Re: Travel to interstellar planets ...
Gee Jorge, a repair technician is not the same thing as an engineer or scientist. A monkey can be trained to swap out LEDs. and as far being a research scientist, did you buy that degree online too?
If you really knew electronics and especially digital electronics (computers) you would never have downplayed the complexity of smartphones and computers in your previous statement.

Re: Travel to interstellar planets ...
Jorge, you have already flushed your reputation for honesty down the toilet after it was found out you bought your M. Div at a diploma mill. At this point I don't believe ANY claims you make about your credentials, experience, history or knowledge. You have only yourself to blame for that. The only thing we really own in this world is our good name, and you have thrown yours away.

TRIPLE vomit !!!
What you are doing in your not-so-subtle language is calling me "a dishonest liar".
Shouldn't you be banning yourself for two weeks right about now?
Everything I wrote is true - not that I have to justify or prove myself to the likes of you.
As for my diploma / degree :
First, it is a PhD, not a M Div.
Second, the work that I did is something that you know nothing about
and so you are totally unqualified to make any judgments on it.
Third, I would have written the same dissertation had I been at
Princeton, Harvard or MIT. So if the dissertation is the same, what
else matters? IOW, look at the work, not your snobbery.
Fourth, I did not "buy" anything - I worked for that degree.
I worked harder and paid more for that degree than you will ever know.
That the degree does not conform to your standards is fine - I've never
asked you to accept it. Simply ignore it and move on, kiddo.
Fifth and final, I am still waiting for you to provide a substantive post
on my topic instead of your continuous ad hominem bull-droppings.

Re: Travel to interstellar planets ...
As was Newcomb and DeForest. Kelvin, who was positively brilliant, still is famous for making numerous proclamations like the one provided by Sparko. He also is said to have declared that "radio has no future" and that "x-rays are a hoax."
Here are a few more by some other famous, highly intelligent individuals:
“There is no likelihood man can ever tap the power of the atom … they have no energy to give up in the process of disintegration.” --Robert Andrews Millikan, winner of the 1923 Nobel Prize for Physics.
“I utterly reject the atomic theory of Dalton.” --Sir Humphrey Davey (1778-1829) of John Dalton’s theory of the existence of atoms. Interestingly, Dalton himself is said to have declared that nobody will ever split the atom but that might be apocryphal.
“However fascinating it may be as a scholarly achievement, there is virtually nothing that has come from molecular biology that can be of any value to human living.” --Frank MacFarlane Burnet (d.1985), Nobel Prize winning Immunologist.
“To see satellites of Jupiter, men had to make an instrument which would create them.” --Father Christopher Clavius (d.1612), mathematician, leader of Jesuit astronomers, author of the Gregorian Calendar (1582), highly esteemed by Galileo, Kepler and Tycho Brahe (“Euclid of the 16th century”), speaking about the telescope. He also had a hard time believing there were mountains on the moon.

Re: Travel to interstellar planets ...
I think the point was (at least to me) that folks have been declaring various things, that today we take for granted, as being impossible. Obviously that doesn't make them impossible even if a highly qualified person once proclaimed that it was. The same goes for many things that are declared by some to be forever impossible
