I'm pretty sure he uses them because he thinks they're accurate. While that may be wishful thinking on his part, I don't think that he's deliberately being dishonest.

          • Its not so much about Russian intervention in elections, its about U.S. citizen cooperation with Russian intervention in elections. That's illegal!

I don't see how anybody even moderately intelligent - and he fits in that category - doesn't know by now that opinion polls are basically fiction designed to shape public opinion rather than reflect it.

So you're saying it was illegal for Hillary to cooperate with the Ukrainian government to dig up dirt on Trump's campaign manager Paul Manafort?

Nope, but that accussation is typical of consevative talking (empty) heads like yourself. "If we get busted, then just blame them for the same thing." As if that would make it okay!

The first and only time I participated in a phone poll, I quickly realized that no matter what answer I gave, the pollster was guaranteed the results they wanted. It was three questions:

                        1) Are you in favor of raising taxes on personal income?
                        2) Are you in favor of raising taxes on businesses?
                        3) Are you more in favor of raising taxes on personal income, or raising taxes on businesses?

I answered no, no, and neither, at which point I was told that "neither" wasn't an option and that I had to choose one. I persisted that I was in favor of neither and to please put that down as my answer. I was then informed that since "neither" wasn't a valid option that the rest of my answers would be discounted and sorry for wasting my time.

But you can see where the survey was going: "A recent poll showed that the public is divided on whether to raise taxes on personal income or to raise it on businesses. 56% said blah blah blah..." It gives the impression that everybody is on board with a tax increase, but they disagree on where it should be increased.

You're extrapolating from a sample of one. You're also looking at it in the worst possible light. I agree that polls can be worded to guide opinion, but disagree that it is necessarily so. I'm quite confident that not every pollster has nefarious designs in mind.

Sorry, but it doesn't go away that easily. The Clinton campaign used information given to them by the Ukrainian government to force Paul Manafort to resign. This was reported by the Politico, so you can't do your usual genetic fallacy dodge.

I'm reminded of a Stephen Colbert quote: "Reality has a well-known liberal bias".
