To his credit, he's right that you generally don't want to submit yourself to a legal "interview" without a lawyer present, even if you're innocent. Having said that, he has no reason to assume Junior isn't acting on the advice of his lawyer.

Trump Jr. released the e-mails for one reason and one reason only, he knew the media had hold of them, and he knew that they would be released, and so, as incriminating as they are, he wanted to make it look as though he was being transparent, and that he had nothing to hide. In other words, he realized he was busted, and wanted to put the best face on it he could.

Hey, dumb dumb, D. Trump Jr. didn't release the E-mail, they, including J. Kushner and P. Manafort, never even acknowledged having the meeting, until after the media reported on it. So both instances apply, they are both incriminating. They should have reported the meeting on their security forms in the first place, the fact they they didn't is incriminating, and the fact that he decided to release the e-mails only after realizing that the media was on to them, and that the e-mails were about to be published, is also incriminating.
