Grocery IQ -- Truly USEFUL App

Most of us who have i-Devices have tried our share of Apps. Some of them are amusing, some are a "flash in the pan", but every once in a while I come across one that is truly useful.

How do I know that "Grocery IQ" is useful? Because after YEARS of refusing to get a "fancy phone", Mrs CP finally relented and let me buy her an iPhone about 6 months ago. And what's the ONE THING that she has actually taken time to learn how to use? The grocery list I showed her.

You can set up your grocery account online, and share it with as many devices as you wish. So we have a shared Grocery account. If I'm at the grocery store, I can look at the list that we have been building up "as we think of something", and even if she's at home, she can add a last minute "dark chocolate" or something -- milk, bread, eggs... then you "check it" as you put it in your cart, and "check out" when you leave the store. It adds the items to "history", so you can see what you've bought in the past.

A really neat feature is that you can scan the UPC of an item you are discarding... like you used the last bit of peanut butter, so you use your iPhone to scan the bar code of the jar before you toss it in the trash, and it adds that brand of product to your shopping list. You can build up, over time, a list of "favorites", and as you run out of paper towels, Cheerios, or floor wax, you can just go to the list of favorites and add it to the shopping list.

There aren't that many Apps that I find truly useful, but this is one I highly recommend. And so does Mrs. CP.

Is there anyway to "comparison" shop for items? I have a Kroger and Albertsons close by, but the Super Walmart is all the way across town....and the Sam's Club is in the next town over. It would be nice to know who has the best prices on stuff without having to read every one of the stores ads....

This APP isn't so much for that, but it DOES have COUPON functions. I haven't used them that much.

HOWEVER.... if you have a Kroger card, you can "register" it online, then look for Kroger coupons on their website. You "load" these coupons to your card, and when you go shopping at Kroger, the appropriate e-Coupon is automatically applied to your purchase without you having to clip, print, or present paper coupons. THAT is pretty neat!
