A Glory Seed Devotional
Today…

Today, as you read these words another family somewhere, perhaps in your own home, or the home of a loved one, or the home of a close friend, or even in the home of a foe is struggling with a loss. Could it be a job? Could it be a loved one? Could it be a close friend? Could it be a dream? Could it be a health issue?

Today a dear friend named Jon will not go to work because of a job loss and the world will not miss a beat and for the most part, it will be unaffected. But not so in heaven, in heaven a tear will fall, a heart will skip a beat not just for my friend but for everyone whose life will be forever altered because of a loss. In the economy of God for every loss, there is a blessing. As heaven’s tear touches the lives upon those it falls there is the assurance that they are not alone.

As powerful as the assurance that Jesus accompanies my friend Jon and his family through all the multiple clouds of adversity associated with his loss is the need for people to accompany them as well. Over the years, experience has taught me heaven blesses us through each other. Experience has taught me that the true mark of a Christian isn’t a cross hanging around their neck or a bible tucked under their arm, a true Christian is one who speaks from the heart saying, “Here am I, Jesus send me into an empty heart who needs us.”

The last verse of Daniel Schutte’s hymn “Here I am Lord” is both a call to live our lives as Jesus lived his and our affirmation to do so.

I, the Lord of wind and flame,
I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them,
My hand will save
Finest bread I will provide,
Till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give My life to them,
Whom shall I send?

Here I am Lord, Is it I Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.

For the most part the world does not know my friend Jon and on the larger scale, he and his family are only a statistic and as I write these words my heart too skips a beat not just for my friend but for all those who fail to see real faces and real lives behind the statistics.
