      Investigating my family tree

Distracted while doing my history paper, I started investigating my family tree the other day and managed to trace my family all the way back to ~1680 Lancashire, England. I didn't see anybody obviously famous but the first "Sulimo" to come to America served in the Revolutionary War and was present at the Battle of King Mountain, which (and I haven't dug too deeply yet) was apparently a pivotal battle during the war.

Anybody else delve into their past?

Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'

'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'

Yes. I stopped though when I reached Adam and a mate blamed me for the Fall of Man. (Through my Paternal grandmother the family tree goes up to Egbert of Wessex, there are some very questionable family trees for him that include Odin, Odin's great* grandfather Thor, whose father-in-law was supposedly Prius of Troy and on up through to Adam)

I have another mate who his family joins up with that line about 6 generations ago, and on the other-side his roots are traced to Charlemagne.

      Yes!

A member of our family clan sees it as her mission to thoroughly investigate our family tree. Every now and then, she brings us up to date, that is, she goes further and further back into the past.

It is amazing how much is actually known about your very own ancestors. Personally I am not so interested in the dry facts of who married who. But I adore the background stories and settings of these people. How they grew up, what dreams they pursued and what were the "headlines" of their days.

A remarkable and interesting thing is that she brought about our early family weapon, explained what it all meant and why it had been changed into the weapon that we have today.

So far she has traced back until 1254 and there we are, in the times where in the Netherlands wealth is growing, the bishop loses power and the guilds are becoming more powerful and the first family castle is being built (do not worry, it was destroyed, rebuilt, and destroyed again in the many clan-wars that would follow.... and now we live happily everyafter in a normal house hahahaha)

But seriously now, it is amazing to read what our family has gone through during centuries. Good times, bad times, glorious times, misery..... and somehow they have managed to make it until today.... this family tree thing.... it gives a silver line to the word family, at least I think so.
... and my answer to scientists is: God knows what you will discover tomorrow...

My Great Grandparents were associates/accomplices of Pretty Boy Floyd and Bonnie and Clyde. That's probably the only interesting thing and it involves criminal behavior

      Re: Investigating my family tree

Supposedly I'm related to ol' Charlie the Hammer from back in the Crusades.

Something a little more concrete, however, is that I'm related to the Reesor Family. They were part of a group of loyalists that came up to Canada from the States and co-founded the city of Markham, Ontario.

Other than that... I'm basically the apple that fell from the family tree and got run over by a lawnmower.

On my father's side, I have an ancestor who was executed in the Salem Witch Trials. That's about the most interesting thing in my family history.
