Re: Would The President of C.O.P.E. Please Stand Up?
Well, considering that the very large portion of Turabian consists of instructions for how to cite different types of sources (I have the Sixth Edition of Kate L. Turabian's A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations right here next to me), failing to follow those can mean the difference between the reader being able to check the sources you used or being unable to find it at all.
Trust me, tracking down an improperly cited source is a major pain.
Following the instructions that everyone else has to, especially in terms of citing sources, is not "Baloney", it's a vital part of writing academic papers.“History is the witness that testifies to the passing of time; it illumines reality, vitalizes memory, provides guidance in daily life and brings us tidings of antiquity.”

Re: Would The President of C.O.P.E. Please Stand Up?
You don't have to complete it all at once.
easy compared to going to a real university. Faster, easier, cheaper, do I need to go on?Awwwww ... and you had been doing so well.
There was nothing "easy" about it, Mister - I assure you of that.
Hey, if it was sooooooo "easy", then why has no one here, yourself
included, accepted my offer. All they / you have to do is complete
the same (or more) work as I did within the same (or less) time
frame as I did and of the same length and quality (or more) as I did,
including the dissertation, and I will pay the full tuition fee.
I repeat, since it's soooooo "easy" then you guys ought to be able
to do it while they play commercials during your TV football games.
I mean, could you people please be consistent?
and the reason nobody here is taking you up on your offer is that nobody here WANTS a diploma from a diploma mill, even if they PAID us to get one. It would be a smear on anyone's resume, not to mention their honor.
I would rather have no degree than a phony one.
Jorge, if you can't afford to spend the time or money to get an accredited Ph.D. then you should not get one at all. What you did was worse than having no degree.Because I hate to leave things unfinished. I began my PhD at
Florida Tech (Florida Institute of Technology) back in the late
1980's. It was in Applied Statistics and Operations Research.
After a year, I had to stop due to work demands. I had been
trying to resume ever since but work would not allow it.
In time my interest in AS & OR diminished while Apologetics
became a main focus in my life. So I began searching for a
program in Apologetics. You know the rest.
I wouldn't bet more than a penny but perhaps now you're beginning
to grasp why you people aren't just wrong, you're dead wrong.
Doesn't matter - I know what the true agenda here is.

Jorge, I don't have $2595 to blow on a phony "diploma." I'm currently doing my best to scramble for $265 to keep the power on in my home. Since I'm disabled (but Social Security hasn't done the right thing), I have to rely on the charity of friends to even pay my bills.
But let's propose that I had the finances to take care of everything and the $2595 to blow on a phony degree. Doing so would be trivially easy. I've seen the "degree requirements" for your alma mater. The "PhD program" can be completed in a matter of weeks.Life sometimes needs to be grabbed by the throat and beaten with a lead pipe. ~ Sir Longpost, a good friend of mine.

Re: Would The President of C.O.P.E. Please Stand Up?
I can't comment on math or computer science (or, for that matter, apologetics, which i've been informed is relevant here), since my degree is in the biosciences. But i can tell you that, in the field i know, there's a world of difference between someone who has gone through a PhD program and someone who's worked, say, in the biotech industry for an equivalent amount of time. Most of the things i've mentioned in my earlier two posts here just don't happen in industry settings, because the purpose of things are radically different. A PhD program is focused on training you to design and perform research; in contrast, even the R&D positions in industries like biotech are focused on developing a marketable product.
I would think it's obvious that, at least in this field, the two will produce radically different experiences that prepare people for different things. Doesn't mean a PhD can't be successful in biotech or a pharma person couldn't complete a PhD program. Just that they're not equivalent when they finish just one of them.
As for the "hoops" that people have to jump through, i distinctly recall having someone in an office on campus taking a ruler to random samples of the 200 or so pages of my thesis to make sure i had the margins right. Was it silly? Yes. Does that moment typify the PhD experience? Not at all.
