In a discussion on Immortality: The Quest to Live Forever and How It Drives Civilization by philosopher Stephen Cave (looks like book review fodder, of the variety), NormATive opines:

The traditional understanding of the afterlife in Christianity is twofold:

1. Revivification of the actual body (evangelical Christian), and 2. The soul survives without the body (Catholic Christian and Islam).

When told he was wrong, he responded with:

Meh - it's been so long since I was a practicing Christian that it's possible I am misremembering. I was raised in a fundamentalist church, so I am positive about the evangelicals believing in revivification of the ACTUAL body - the corpse rotting in the grave. That somehow, G-d would reassemble the corpse.

The problem with this idea is that what body is reassembled? The baby you, the teenage you, the middle age you, or the seasoned citizen you? Over the course of your lifetime, you've regenerated billions of cells - which cells are revivified?

My best friend was Catholic, and I recall the Priest describing how it is a "spiritual" body that is reunited with the soul - not the actual corpse. I remember this distinctly because he even shuddered at the thought. (secretly, he was probably condemning me as a protestant heretic).

Cave points out that in the gospels, even Jesus dodges the question of the bodily resurrection by throwing out the bomb that there will be no married life in heaven - whoa!

I'm not sure about Islam, but I'm pretty sure Cave said that their belief is somewhat similar to the Catholic view in that the body that is linked with the soul is a "purified spiritual body."

At any rate, the sections on bodily revivification and the development of the concept of the soul are an interesting read.

Biblical note: at the time the King James version translation was made the word “Lucifer” was the name for the planet Venus. Because it rises in the morning it is often called then morning star, but then disappears with the advent of the rise of the sun that is the true Morning Star. The prophet Isaiah said “Lucifer, son of the morning, how thou art fallen from heaven”

Although old-time fundamentalists use that passage of Scripture to describe the beginning of Satan on earth, the truth behind it is the fall of man and in this particular case was the king of Babylon.

Spiritual historical note: This positioning marks the end of 2000 year journey that the Earth and Venus make around the sun, the last time this was completed at this point was the time Christ was born. Some 2000 years before that when the same lengthy journey was completed (that is in the shape of a 5 pointed star) was when Moses appeared.

The Mayans mark this event as return of the female half of their God to earth with the male half arriving 2000 years ago.

There are some Christians who share similar beliefs regarding the Holy Spirit, who say the male half seen in the Holy Spirit arrived 2000 years ago at Pentecost. Now, 2000 years later, the female half is arriving that is the soul (wife) for the Holy Spirit (husband) already on earth, is also known as the tabernacle of God.

This event is recorded in Revelation chapter 21.

Rev.21:2 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

This is the same guy who says you shouldn't use context when reading the bible.

Can you show me one Scripture where it says to keep everything in context? No, you cannot and to keep in contact [he misspelled context here - sparko] all the time means that you are failing to rightly divide the word.

and:

Keeping in contents [should be "context" again] is good for high school kids and seminary students. but as the Scripture says those who learn knowledge must do so comparing spiritual things with spiritual things, line upon line, precept upon precept, here little and there a little as God spoke through his prophets and the law over the time span of many centuries.

Suggest you start learning obedience to God on how he would have you to learn the truth of the Scriptures and not applying some methods suitable for learning the things of the world to God's Holy Scriptures.

Satan is the prince in power of the air and "keep it in context" is one of his ways for keeping the church confused.

That's what happens when inept churches teach platitudes and exegete (is that a verb?) poorly and offer no apologetics.

You can tell what a good student he is by all the scholarly commentaries on the shelves behind him.

Of course, I never knew that Iron Man and Crash Bandicoot were Biblical scholars.

This will happen during the closing ceremony of the Olympics (Aug. 12). False Flag attacks are the consequences for the separation of the Church from the state. The gullible masses richly deserve it.
