Spartacus, go away, on an 8-day retreat or something, you're being an ass and not making sense.

Re: July 2012 Screwballs
Mega screwball to a group of Christians who showed up at an Arab festival with picket signs and a megaphone and then complain when the Muslims there tell them to go away for being annoying, and for not having the courtesy to just leave when the Muslims started throwing water bottles and eggs and other things at them, and playing the victim card saying the police were selectively against them (they weren't), claiming they were being "stoned" (LOL they were being egged and water bottled) and were having eggs and "urine" thrown at them (how do you throw urine in a crowd of people?). And for living in a closet, e.g. telling one guy to go back to Pakistan when he's from Iraq; saying that "chopping people's heads off" was what those barbaric Muslims do....maybe he's unaware that Crusades are what we barbaric Christians do.
Screwball to the Muslims for being extremely rude and verbally obnoxious, and for nearly starting a riot.
I can't post the Youtube video because there is so much vulgarity it's not even funny. The whole thing is just sad."Everybody wants to go to heaven. They just don't want God to be there when they get there." Paul Washer

Re: July 2012 Screwballs
And now the "I have no freaking clue what they're trying to say with this" award for this allegedly inspirational image.
thewordbecameflash.jpg
Not only is that confusing as heck, they also misspelled it in the URL and in the image description on the page. "The word became falsh?"
Really?
And what in the heck did they mean by "The word became flash?" Seriously, what the heck? This is Platinum-worthy fail.Okay, I finally have a blog.

Re: July 2012 Screwballs
Shouldn't a Loyolan retreat be about spiritual exercise, not "listening to God" per se?
Though I disagree with the methods Ignatius used, going on a silent retreat to listen to God is not a bad thing - and yes, can be quite relaxing. A silent retreat cuts out the noise that can so easily insulate us from God's voice. It's not like the woman expects to literally hear God speak (as far as I can see).

Re: July 2012 Screwballs
I think you've hoisted yourself upon your own petard and done precisely what you accused Teluog of doing when you said "The point is not to judge a person so quickly or harshly based on such limited information." Nonsensical? Not really. Hypersensitive and childish? Absolutely.

Re: July 2012 Screwballs
Goodness, I haven't contributed anything yet!
Here's a Youtube idiot called brettbc27 explaining why atheists mock religious people:
So he commits a logical fallacy for the benefit of youth. Well, that's really going to teach them to think logically."We don't mock the religious for our benefit... it's for the youth of the nation to see us point out how ridiculous and limiting religion really is. Rationality is winning. Statistics show the results."

Re: July 2012 Screwballs
I know a bit more about Teluog than he did about the woman he criticized. As I recall, it was a response to a question asked by a friend of a person who Teluog thinks has a shallow spirituality. That's several degrees of separation between him and the person he's criticizing.
I've interacted with Teluog before. I've seen him complain about this sort of thing before. It is most definitely not a perfect comparison, or even a particularly good one. Nevertheless, I appreciate your attempt at equanimity.
Was my reaction exaggerated? A bit, but only because I wanted to make a point about more than just this particular instance. The seemingly shallow statements he's been posting in the screwball thread aren't necessarily as shallow as he thinks they are. There's a slight chance that a person's spirituality is no deeper than that, but even extremely intelligent and holy people, when they summarize their spirituality, would be more likely to say something like "listen to God" than use precise, dry, and academic terms.Disregard the above.
