How unusual is it for the rabbi to be the only one that partakes of the wine and bread during kiddish?

I can't say I've seen it done that way and I have no idea why that would be the case. Everyone present for kiddush should take a small sip if they were paying attention (if you are not paying attention than the blessing said by the Rabbi wouldn't count for you). Did you see it done that way?

Re: Kiddish Q
Micah 6:6. With what shall I come before the Lord, bow before the Most High G-d? Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings, with yearling calves? 7. Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with myriad streams of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? 8. He has told you, O man, what is good, and what the Lord demands of you; but to do justice, to love loving-kindness, and to walk discreetly with your G-d.

I think they do that with the wine at the Shabbat service at the now local messianic synagogue that is more messianic and less synagogue than the last place. I don't recall the challah there but I was slightly out of it. I have not been to and cannot yet speak on the Erev Shabbat services.

Re: Kiddish Q
That seems very strange, and I wonder what the reasoning behind it is. However, if it is a Messianic church I guess they have
their own traditions and interpretations.
