Can you clarify what you mean here? I'm reading it as you saying that the doctrine of the trinity itself was brought about in protest to the RCC, but that can't be right. Maybe you mean that the doctrine was clarified by the early church in the face of heresy...?

Sorry, my fault for not being clear enough. I mean that the trinity is something held by protestants, which has a history starting with protesting RCC doctrines, so it is rather silly to pass it off as a catholic thing when well, I can't find any major denomination that doesn't accept the trinity.

I have a feeling he was referring to indulgences, but I'm having a hard time making heads or tails.

Just curious...how do you define "major denomination"? For instance, the UPCI (United Pentecostal church) has 3 mil members worldwide...they believe in the "Oneness Doctrine" and deny the trinity.

Science continually self corrects as more data becomes available, while religious fundamentalists will always retreat stubbornly to outmoded views of the world.

It's easy to cast things in a pejorative light. Gives a great deal of self satisfaction. What takes more intellect and more courage is to actually engage with ideas we disagree with honestly giving them due consideration and then arguing against them conclusively from the data.

Disdain is just fear in disguise.

As I understand it, they don't exactly "deny" the Trinity (not like JW or Mormons do), they just have some very misguided and unorthodox notions about it. I'd say the majority of Oneness Pentecostals probably never heard (or don't understand) the orthodox position to know to deny it (that may be unfortunately true for most orthodox Christians too).

I'm counting the major branches, UPCI is kind of a small branch of the protestant tradition, when compaired to the other protestant traditions.

I agree that the UPCI needs to be more clear as to how the consider the 'Trinity' in their beliefs. At present they are getting a lot of splinters in the butt sitting on the fences, and their statements on the Trinity are as clear as Mississippi Mud Ice Cream.
