Christianity 201 Guidelines

orthodox Christians only.

Discussion on matters of general mainstream evangelical Christian theology that do not fit within Theology 201. Have some spiritual gifts ceased today? Is the KJV the only viable translation for the church today? In what sense are the books of the bible inspired and what are those books? Church government? Modern day prophets and apostles?

This forum is primarily for Christians to discuss matters of Christian doctrine, and is not the area for debate between atheists (or those opposing orthodox Christianity) and Christians. Inquiring atheists (or sincere seekers/doubters/unorthodox) seeking only Christian participation and having demonstrated a manner that does not seek to undermine the orthodox Christian faith of others are also welcome, but must seek Moderator permission first. When defining “Christian” or "orthodox" for purposes of this section, we mean persons holding to the core essentials of the historic Christian faith such as the Trinity, the Creatorship of God, the virgin birth, the bodily resurrection of Christ, the atonement, the future bodily return of Christ, the future bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, and the final judgment. Persons not holding to these core doctrines are welcome to participate in the Comparative Religions section without restriction, in Theology 201 as regards to the nature of God and salvation with limited restrictions, and in Christology for issues surrounding the person of Christ and the Trinity. Atheists are welcome to discuss and debate these issues in the Apologetics 301 forum without such restrictions.

Additionally and rarely, there may be some topics or lines of discussion that within the Moderator's discretion fall so outside the bounds of mainstream orthodox doctrine (in general Christian circles or in the TheologyWeb community) or that deny certain core values that are the Christian convictions of forum leadership that may be more appropriately placed within Unorthodox Theology 201. NO personal offense should be taken by such discretionary decision for none is intended. While inerrancy is NOT considered a requirement for posting in this section, a general respect for the Bible text and a respect for the inerrantist position of others is requested.

The Tweb rules apply here like they do everywhere at Tweb, if you haven't read them, now would be a good time.

The context of this is the Final Judgment, and note that in that passage it remains God's role to mete out judgment, not to do it ourselves.

Sad to say I read one FB post celebrating McCain's brain cancer. I do not like McCain, but that is beyond my understanding.
Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

Exactly. Revelation is also talking about blood of martyrs who are such, in part, because they too violently loved their enemies in life.

It's not talking about the final judgment. It's talking about the first century. Also, it still has the same meaning regardless of what it's talking about.

            It's "Revelation" - not plural.

They called out in a loud voice, "How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?"
They (the souls of them which were slain - the martyrs) are calling for God to avenge, they are not rejoicing.

"Rejoice over her, you heavens! Rejoice, you people of God! Rejoice, apostles and prophets! For God has judged her with the judgment she imposed on you."

              You seldom disappoint.
Enter the Church and wash away your sins. For here there is a hospital and not a court of law. Do not be ashamed to enter the Church; be ashamed when you sin, but not when you repent. – St. John Chrysostom

What does that bolded part even mean?

                  Hyperbole.

I'm thinking back to early martyrs who said to the Romans things like "I have already defeated you" before they were executed.

                    Debated!!!

and note that in that passage it remains God's role to mete out judgment, not to do it ourselves.
But what is our role? Pray for judgment of wicked, and be joyful when it comes!!!

Even better, angel calls them to rejoice!!

You should know that point is controversial, especially with millennium afterward!!

Plenty of angry psalms that say similar (if not ''''worse'''') things, so what makes you say that? Is rejoicing about enemies supposed to be something bad until it magically becomes good at Day of Judgment???

Since 1972 when Jesus forgave me of my sin, changed my heart, took away my anger and gave me His love.

Which reminds me of the woman who was raised a Muslim, and had an intense hatred for the Jews. She was taught, of course, that they were monkeys and pigs, and not worthy of human life. Through the testimony of a co-worker at a mall in Dallas, this woman was invited to Church at Prestonwood, where she was amazed that she was welcomed warmly, even though she purposely wore her burka just to be annoying. (her own testimony)

She gave her life to Christ, and was baptized the next Sunday. She says, "it was most remarkable thing - as I come up out of the water, I have overwhelming love for Jewish people".

She's a missionary now to Muslims in Israel, and our Church is pleased to support her. I praise God that she came from a religion of hate, to the "Church of Niceness".

That explains a lot!! How's niceness working out in struggle for your denomination?

I can assure you Christianity is very much about hating evil (but not people), preferably with fury of raging inferno!!!
