A Glory Seed Devotional
An apology…
I owe each of you an apology.
Normally when I sit down to write I have you in mind. I try in my imagination to visualize what your spiritual needs may be and then search the bible for just the right verse the Holy Spirit can use to provide you with the spiritual uplift you need. However, instead of visualizing your spiritual needs this morning, I found myself facing my own and so I went in search of a scripture not for you but for me. And as I read in the book of Isaiah, I could almost feel the Holy Spirit saying, “Not that one. No, not that one either. Keep reading. That one is close but keep reading. No, that’s not the one.” Then suddenly, “That’s the one, pray in that one.”
“When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” (Isaiah 43:2 NLT)
When I began, praying in that verse the Holy Spirit suddenly brought it to life. “You will find yourself in deep waters but, I WILL BE WITH YOU! You will find yourself surrounded by rivers of doubt and hopelessness but YOU WILL NOT DROWN! When you find yourself in the fires of oppression by circumstances beyond your control YOU WILL NOT BE BURNED UP! When you find yourself being tried by the fires of temptation they WILL NOT CONSUME YOU!”
“But Lord,” I prayed “wouldn’t it be easier just to lead me around all that junk rather than escorting me through all of it? After all you created electricity to take the path of least resistance so why don’t you do that with us too?” While I never got an answer to my prayer the Holy Spirit gently reminded me of Jesus’ life and did say, “It cannot be otherwise in the kingdom of God on earth but the kingdom of God in heaven now that’s another story.”
Like I said earlier, I owe each of you an apology so please forgive me for thinking about myself this morning. But, maybe just maybe I wasn’t just thinking about myself, maybe I was thinking about us!
Grace and PEACE!
Gary

He has saved me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling.
And so I walk in the LORD's presence as I live here on earth!
(Psalms 116:8-9 NLT)
