It was a throwaway comment that was plain wrong. It reiterated Trump's lie. As happened frequently.

Yes, and it appears the new strategy (since there is no way one can claim the comment was right) is to make it seem insignificant. Along the lines of "Yeah, ok, it was wrong but who cares?" And then those same people of course use it in the narrative of "majoring on the minors" in order to still use it to strengthen their case... So "who cares?" It appears both sides still care.
"Yes. President Trump is a huge embarrassment. And it’s an embarrassment to evangelical Christianity that there appear to be so many who will celebrate precisely the aspects that I see Biblically as most lamentable and embarrassing." Southern Baptist leader Albert Mohler Jr.

Trump's appears to be saying that he isn't actually lying because he believes it. But, of course, this has nothing to do with whether Trump is telling the truth or not. The truth is determined by its adherence to known facts, not by whether or not you think you are telling it.

We can all agree that its hard to know what Trump means when he says words.

I really honestly wish he'd just shut up most of the time.... something GOOD will be happening, and he'll manage to shoot himself in the foot and give the media red meat to continue their assault.

Kinda like the liberals tried to do with "you can keep your doctor, period", "you can keep your plan, period", "you have to vote on it so you can see what's in it" stuff? Were you this rabid about those statements?

I have no idea why he cares anyway since he has said he is not even in America, nor American.

Like collusion, once it became apparent that collusion may very well have occured, the narrative changed to "so what" collusion isn't illegal.

                        There was no collusion.

Your memory (or your narrative) is deceiving you. We noted that collusion isn't illegal from the first.

So, now we impeach people because they MAY have done something that is not illegal? You're desperate, Jim.
