  • Denisovan species of early humans first to carve Jewlery

The Denisovan species (sub-species Homo sapiens ssp. Denisova) was first identified from the genetics of a single finger bone found found in the remote Denisova Cave in the Altai Mountains in Siberia, about 41,000 years old. The were apparently isolated long enough from other homo sapiens to develop a unique DNA. Since then the cave has been extensively excavated finding a lot more information on the Denisovans. The cave was later occupied by homo sapiens sapiens. It appears the Denisovans were absorbed into the homo sapiens sapiens leaving a genetic fingerprint in our DNA.

What is remarkable is that they are found to be a culturally advanced paleolithic humans. The sophisticated carved item of Jewelry is dated to 70,000 years older then any known human carving of jewelry.

Is this stunning bracelet made by Paleolithic man for his favourite woman really 70,000 years old?
By The Siberian Times reporter02 August 2017

Startling new scientific evidence is to be reviewed by international experts which - if true - would transform our knowledge of the skills and sophistication of early man.

It is already known as the oldest stone bracelet in the world, believed to have been made not by ancient Homo sapiens but the extinct Denisovan species of early humans, and previously dated as being between 40,000 - 50,000 years old.

The bracelet was found in 2008 in so-called Stratum 11 of world famous Denisova cave in the Altai region of Siberia.

New findings suggest it could be 65,000 to 70,000 years old, long before ancient people were believed to capable of making such remarkable objects.

Maksim Kozlikin, a researcher form the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography, Novosibirsk, indicated Australian specialists were among those to obtain exceptional results on the bracelet's age.

'Preliminary results have been received to date Stratum 11 where the bracelet was found to 65,000-to-70,000 years,' he said.

'So it all goes towards changing the dating of the find to more ancient.'

It is understood that further checks were made, and the results were 'verified and verified again', according to one Russian report, citing scientists involved with the bracelet.

'Scientists are certain that multiple big headlines are coming up,' reported Novosibirsk TV Channel 10.

This month experts from Russia will meet scientists from the University of Wollongong in Australia, and University of Oxford in the UK.

Professor Mikhail Shunkov, director of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography, said: 'Our colleagues from Australia and Oxford are coming here in August, we will be discussing the dating then.'

They have been in the news a good bit in the past month. Recently a fragment of a tooth from a girl around 10 to 12 years old found in the cave has been dated at being at least 20,000 years before the other Denisovans remains there and maybe even 40,000 years earlier.

    Abstract

The presence of Neandertals in Europe and Western Eurasia before the arrival of anatomically modern humans is well supported by archaeological and paleontological data. In contrast, fossil evidence for Denisovans, a sister group of Neandertals recently identified on the basis of DNA sequences, is limited to three specimens, all of which originate from Denisova Cave in the Altai Mountains (Siberia, Russia). We report the retrieval of DNA from a deciduous lower second molar (Denisova 2), discovered in a deep stratigraphic layer in Denisova Cave, and show that this tooth comes from a female Denisovan individual. On the basis of the number of “missing substitutions” in the mitochondrial DNA determined from the specimen, we find that Denisova 2 is substantially older than two of the other Denisovans, reinforcing the view that Denisovans were likely to have been present in the vicinity of Denisova Cave over an extended time period. We show that the level of nuclear DNA sequence diversity found among Denisovans is within the lower range of that of present-day human populations.
